John Baker is an accomplished cinematographer whose work has been screened at prestigious film festivals and featured in campaigns for nationally and globally recognized brands. With a solid foundation in visual aesthetics and a deep curiosity about the world and human experience, John strives to craft avant-garde, thought-provoking visuals that are rooted in empathy and authenticity. His approach to storytelling is visceral—he doesn’t just want the audience to see the image, but to feel it.
Raised in Miami, John experienced a culturally rich upbringing, shaped by the convergence of Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, New York, and the American South. Interacting with such a diverse mix of people sparked a wide-eyed curiosity about the world—one he would soon explore firsthand. Thanks to his mother’s free spirit and wanderlust, John spent his youth traveling across the U.S., visiting family in Germany, and even living among Rastafarians in a rural Jamaican seaside village.
Alongside his love for exploration, John developed an unwavering passion for photography. In his mid-20s, between writing jobs, fate placed him on the set of a Pennsylvania Lottery commercial as a production assistant. Barely into his breakfast burrito, he watched an Arri 35 III being prepped and felt an immediate calling. From that moment, he knew cinematography was his true path. He put down the pen, picked up the camera, and never looked back.
