Crassostrea vel Magallana gigas[1] est conchylium familiae Ostreidarum ad litora maris Sinensis Orientalis et Iaponiae sponte gignens. Saepe ad omnium fere marium oras colitur, culturis aliorum specierum hebescentibus aut abruptis. Per mundum anno 2015 583 464 000 chiliogrammata venditata sunt, pretio $1 153 866 000.[2]
In Iaponia haec species sponte gignit et iam diu culta est. Ibi Europaeani primum saeculo XVIII exeunte descripserunt.[3] Iaponenses has gigantes variis modis coquere solent.[4] Est una duarum specierum in arte coquinaria Iaponensi celebrium: altera est Magallana nippona.
