Tsunehiro "gachikun" Kanamori is a Japanese Fighting Games player currently representing Good 8 Squad and Red Bull eSports.

He is a Capcom Cup champion, having won the CPT circuit final in 2018.

Biography[edit]

Gachikun first begun playing fighting games with the release of Street Fighter IV in Japanese arcades.[1] He initially had no inspiration to play professionally, as he had no previous knowledge of the scene and lived far away from Tokyo. In Ultra Street Fighter IV, he went on to become notorious for his Sagat play, being recognized as one of the best players from Hiroshima.[2]

During the release of Street fighter V, gachikun was one of the few top players to use Rashid in the first season of the game. In early 2017, he started to travel outside of Japan to compete professionally. At Red Bull Kumite 2017, gachikun shocked the western fighting game community by convincingly beating Xiao Hai, Tokido and Infiltration in his path to Grand Finals.

Throughout the 2017 and 2018 season of the Capcom Pro Tour, he continued to deliver exceptional results at a variety of ranking and premier tournaments, such as EGX 2017, Dueling Dragons Dojo 2017, Esports Festival Hong Kong 2017, EVO 2018 and CPT Asia Regional Finals 2018. His success culminated in his Capcom Cup victory in 2018, winning $250,000 and further cementing his status as one of the best Street Fighter players in the world. With that win, Gachikun gained a sponsorship with Red Bull eSports in November 2018.

Gachikun was quick to adapt to Rashid's changes going into Street Fighter 6, winning the second CPT 2023 Offline Premier in Singapore over Chris Wong. He continued to achieve consistent top-level results in offline majors Blink Respawn 2023, FAV Cup 2023 Qualifier and Keio Cup, while choosing to not participate in the remaining online CPT events as he was already qualified for Capcom Cup. At Capcom Cup X, gachikun managed to win his group over NL before falling short to DCQ in the Winners Side of the Top 16, but managed to turn it around in the Losers Bracket by defeating Fuudo, Sayff, Leshar and NL before losing a close match against Chris Wong on his way to the Grand Finals.
