Overview[edit]
The Gamers Assembly is the main offline event held in France every year since 2001. It takes place in the city of Poitiers, in the Futuroscope facility. The 2011 edition featured twelve tournaments :
- Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare
- Call of Duty 7 : Black Ops
- Counter-Strike 1.6
- Counter-Strike Girl
- Counter-Strike: Source
- Heroes of Newerth
- StarCraft II - Main Event
- StarCraft II - Medion Trophy
- Super Street Fighter IV
- Team Fortress 2
- Trackmania Nation Forever
- Trackmania United Forever
The main StarCraft II tournament was counting for the French Master Series 2010/2011, which lead to the qualification for Electronic Sports World Cup 2011. There was 96 contestants, including some famous foreign players like Strelok and HasuObs, as well as the major French players. There was two rounds of group stage, followed by double-elimination playoffs.
Simultaneously, one of the main sponsors, Medion, organized a single-elimination tournament which pitted 16 invites. The Medion Trophy didn't count for the Master Series, and offered a computer worth 1550 EUR to the winner.
Main Tournament[edit]
Main Event Format[edit]
The main tournament included 96 players. During the first round of group stage, 84 of them were placed in 12 groups of 7 players, and played best of one matches. The foreign invites and the French players with the best ranks in Master Series were seeded into the second group stage, which pitted 40 players in best of 3 matches, divided into eight groups of five.
Sixteen players were qualified for a double-elimination playoffs, which was intended to be played in best of 3. Unfortunately, difficulties with battle.net caused the tournament to begin with five hours late. In order to prevent it from ending in the early hours of the next morning, the admins decided that the lower bracket would be played in best of one matches.
Prize Pool[edit]
Converted USD prizes are based on the currency exchange rate (taken from xe.com) on April 25, 2011: 1 EUR = 1.45765 USD.
Fourth to sixth places also received a SSD by Crucial.
