A Tamer (Japanese: もうじゅうつかい Fierce Beast User) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are men with whips and lollipops who generally use a variety of Pokémon that are based on real-life fierce beasts.
In Pokémon Stadium, they specialize in Pokémon with moves with a high critical-hit ratio, like Slash and Crabhammer. They tend to focus on a single strategy for their entire team, often having less than four moves on all of their Pokémon.

Pokémon Adventures
A Tamer made a cameo appearance in a flashback in Punching Poliwrath. He was one of the Trainers who wanted to challenge Red to a battle after his win at the Indigo League, but he was considered to be a "boring" match.
Trivia
- Tamers are the only Trainers introduced in Generation I to still be shown holding whips in the remakes.
