I was recently sent this XP Pen Artist Pro 16 Gen 2 pen display by XP Pen Deutschland to test out.

I’m happy to say it’s really a wonderful device. I prefer a larger surface when working from home but the 16” size turned out to be quite optimal with the screen having great colour depth and resolution. The pen is precise and works really smoothly, though it felt light to my hand.

The build quality is good and the device comes with everything you need, even a glove to draw with. It is light and quite portable and only needed a single cable to connect to my Macbook Pro. This is pretty handy as it allows for you to carry a full work setup with you on your travels if you need to.

I’ve tried it for making layouts, sketches, edits and fixes along with this full illustration of Gotham by Gaslight Batman. Worked without a hitch.

With the unbeatable price it comes highly recommended.

Here’s the cover to the super limited BUG WARS ashcan. Copies have gone out to select retailers, so your local shop may have a copy on hand. The ashcan features the first 19 story pages from the double-sized issue #1, along with a sneak peek at some of my character designs for the various sects of Mytes, like the Beetle Clans, the Ant Imperium and the web witches of the Systers of the Spyder. The ashcan also features an exclusive prose prequel story Jason wrote called “The Boys From Bug Tussle.” First prose he’s written in many years. And that story won’t be reprinted in issue #1.

BUG WARS Book One Issue #1 will be coming your way in February, by the all-star team of artist Mahmud Asrar, colorist Matthew Wilson, letterer Becca Carey and editor Heather Antos, published by Image Comics. We’ve been working on this series a long time, building a sprawling network of dark, bug-infested kingdoms in the Slaymaker family’s backyard, one we hope to explore for years to come.
