Workshop at the Federal University of Bahia

[edit]
Class of Internet and Technologies at Federal University of Bahia.

In May 2016, a volunteer of the group was invited to participate of a training on the basics on Wikipedia. The workshop is one of a series of trainings given to students on the course of "Internet and Open Technologies".

The event was created as part of the Program "Onda Digital",[6] which intends to expand the understanding of internet and open knowledge in Bahia. A partnership between Onda Digital and Wikimedia volunteers has been suggested in order to make this training permanent on this course.

On this training, the Five Pillars of Wikipedia are raised and many other basic rules of Wikipedia that are derived or related with them are taught. We also learned how to create accounts and use the Translation tool.

Interviews with educators

[edit]

The UG Wikimedia in Brazil has launched a series of interviews with inspiring individuals who are actively committed to the idea that “Wikipedia belongs in education.” These interviews were widely disseminated on social media, blogs and media outlets. Only one reference in Portuguese --and when available in other languages-- is provided.

Meeting with Wikimedia Foundation employees Asaf Bartov and Gregory Varnum

The User Group has supported the development of an initiative of dissemination through Wikimedia projects with the the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center for Neuromathematics (NeuroMat), at the University of São Paulo. The User Group has been active in this partnership with Joalpe and Sturm. This activity has been done in direct relation with Brazil's first Wikipedian-in-residence, Horadrim,[15] who has been funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation.[16][17][18][19] In September, a second Wikipedian-in-residence joined the team, to work specifically on improving the Brazilian community around audible entries on Wikipedia (reference page to be confirmed). Wikipedians-in-residence receive public funding from the São Paulo Research Foundation.
