Barbarian Village is a small village south of Edgeville and west of Varrock. The village contains many aggressive barbarians, so low level players are advised to proceed with caution! The entire village is a multicombat area, allowing many players to attack just one barbarian — or many barbarians to attack just one player.

Players can also enter the Stronghold of Security through a hole in the centre of the village.

Lore[edit | edit source]

A century ago, the lost art of Runecraft was rediscovered, allowing humans to quickly dominate most of Gielinor. The nomadic mountain tribes of Rellekka embarked on a crusade to stop the use of Magic and Runecrafting, which they believe belong only to the gods. During this time, the first Wizards' Tower was burned to the ground (although not by the barbarians), and the magic-using Imcando dwarves were driven to near-extinction.

As casualties mounted, however, the tribes dwindled and were dispersed, and the Barbarian Village was established in between what is now Varrock and Falador as a temporary outpost until the tribes could recover their numbers. Over time, the barbarians gradually settled down, and the village became a more permanent establishment.

Locations[edit | edit source]

Buildings[edit | edit source]

Building Description
Longhall The largest building in the village. Free beer and cooked meat respawn on the tables. There is a single level 15 ranged Barbarian around the hall. This is a popular area to train ranged combat by using the tables as cover, then moving out to collect arrows and drops.
Lookout tower A tall building overlooking the path from Varrock.
Peksa's Helmet Shop The only non-members store where players can buy helmets other than black full helms. Peksa sells and buys medium and full helmets of bronze, iron, steel, mithril, and adamant.
Spinning hut A small hut with a spinning wheel.
Storage hut A small hut with no application.
Tassie's studio A studio containing a pottery oven and a potter's wheel, as well as a barbarian anvil.

Resources and training spots[edit | edit source]

Name Information
Barbarian anvil A single-use anvil which can be used to make hastae after completing barbarian training.
Barbarian Village mine A very small mine located at the centre of the village containing coal and tin.
Fishing spots Players can fish with feathers or fishing bait at these spots, requiring level 20 and 25 Fishing respectively.
Never-ending fires There is a never-ending fire west of the fishing spots, which is popular among free-to-play players for quickly cooking caught fish.

There are also perpetually burning fires in the middle of Peksa's shop and at the end of the longhall.

Pottery oven and wheel Players can use soft clay with this and the pottery oven nearby to craft pottery items. In the free worlds, this is the only location of a potter's wheel and oven outside of the Crafting Guild. A bronze pickaxe spawns here.
Spinning wheel A wheel that can be used to make balls of wool and other spun items.

Stronghold of Security[edit | edit source]

Reached through a hole located in the mining area, the Stronghold of Security, new from 4 July 2006, is open to both members and free-to-play players. The medium-sized dungeon gives rewards for making it to the centre of each of its four levels, each of increasing difficulty. Various monsters inhabit each level, including goblins, skeletons, ankou, and several monsters unique to the dungeon, such as minotaurs.

Treasure Trails[edit | edit source]

  • Killing a barbarian in the Barbarian Village or at the Barbarian Outpost for a key to be able to search the chest in the Exam Centre is the solution to the medium cryptic clue: The dead, red dragon watches over this chest. He must really dig the view.
  • Hunding is the solution to the beginner cryptic clue: In a village of barbarians, I am the one who guards the village from up high.
