'Rhythm Of The Night' Singer El DeBarge Arrested In Wrench Attack

Singer El DeBarge was arrested in the San Fernando Valley for allegedly taking a wrench to a windshield during an argument.

LOS ANGELES, CA — "Rhythm of the Night," Singer El DeBarge spent a night in a Los Angeles jail after allegedly smashing a windshield with a wrench during an argument in the San Fernando Valley.

El DeBarge, 57, was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism in the San Fernando Valley Friday night.
The singer, whose real name is Eldra DeBarge, reportedly got into an argument with another man, chased him from the house and into a nearby RV.

"We're told DeBarge was not deterred, and followed after the guy with a wrench, which he allegedly smashed into the RV's windshield," reported TMZ, which broke the story. "That's when the other guy called police, who arrested DeBarge for felony vandalism."

DeBarge, 57, whose birth name is Eldra DeBarge, was taken into custody about 9 p.m. Friday by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Station. He was released about 10 a.m. Saturday on $20,000 bail, jail records show.

According to TMZ.com, the singer got into an argument "and chased a man out of a house ... forcing him to retreat to a nearby RV."

DeBarge spent the night in jail and was released Saturday on $20,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

DeBarge is best known for the song, "Rhythm of the Night," first released in 1985, which was featured in the 2016 film "Ghostbusters: Answer the Call."
