New Canaan Ranked 51st Best Suburb to Raise Family in Country

New Canaan was also ranked #3 in the state by Niche.com.

Niche.com has ranked the “Best Suburbs to Raise A Family” in the United States and five Connecticut communities crack the top 100.

The report looks at a community’s age demographics, school rankings, crime rates, affordable housing, access to child care, libraries and grocery stores.

According to the report, “A high ranking indicated that a suburb attracts young families with good schools and a safe community.”

It appears Niche.com believes that Westchester County is the best place in America to raise a family as three of the top 10 entrants are just to the west of Connecticut.

Scarsdale is voted No. 1 followed by Bronxville at No. 5 and Larchmont at No. 9.

Connecticut’s highest ranking community is Darien at No. 17 followed by Weston at No. 20, New Canaan, No. 51, Westport, No. 59, and Wilton at No. 62.

Niche.com also does a list ranking just Connecticut communities and after Darien, Weston, New Canaan, Westport, and Wilton, Simsbury is No. 6, Cheshire, No. 7, Glastonbury, No. 8, Madison, No. 9, and Easton at No. 10.

New Canaan received an A+ for education and community, A- for crime and housing, B+ for access to day cares, B- for access to grocery stores and a C- for access to libraries.
