ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- St. Petersburg Police have arrested an eighth-grade student at Bay Point Middle School after he was overheard telling a friend on Thursday that he planned to bring his guns to school.

St. Pete Police went to the 13-year-old boy's home and, during an interview, the teen told police that he wasn't serious when he made the comment. Police did not find any firearms in the home.

However, St. Pete Police said his comment caused alarm and fear among students and parents and used significant police resources. He was arrested and charged with "making a false report concerning use of a firearm in a violent manner," a second-degree felony.
