Teacher Sexually Assaulted Cartersville High School Student: Police
Mark Mathison was charged after a week-long investigation into the sexual assault, authorities said.
CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Cartersville High School teacher has been charged after sexually assaulting a student, authorities said Friday.
Another educator notified police Oct. 20 of a possible sexual assault of one of the school's students, officials said. After a week-long investigation, local police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents apprehended Mark Mathison.
Mathison was charged with improper sexual contact by an employee (felony), sexual exploitation of children (felony) and obscene telephone contact (misdemeanor). Authorities placed the Cartersville resident in the Bartow County Jail, pending a bond hearing.
