CHEVY CHASE, MD — A 3-month-old drowned in Chevy Chase Sunday, and the child's mother has been charged with first-degree murder, Montgomery County Police said Monday.

Mackenzie Rose Colgan, 37, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder in the death of her 3-month-old daughter, a police news release said. Shortly after noon Sunday, the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center received a call from the infant’s father claiming Colgan had drowned their daughter while giving her a bath.

Montgomery County police officers and Fire Rescue Personnel responded to the 7300 block of Summit Avenue. The infant was taken to a local hospital, where additional life-saving measures were attempted, but the child was ultimately pronounced dead.
