Newton Library Offering Prizes, Tour For Library Card Sign-Up Month
Anyone who opens a library account this month gets a spin of the prize wheel. The library also is hosting a behind-the-scenes tour.
NEWTON, MA — Newton Free Library is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month with a couple of special events.
In September, anyone who opens up a library account gets to spin the prize wheel. Prizes include: an item from the goody bin, a book sale coupon, or an entry in the grand prize raffle. Patrons can sign up at the Children's Circulation Desk.
"Over 42,000 Newton residents have library cards. We're so proud to have so many active library card holders visiting and taking advantage of all the different resources available through the library," Newton Free library officials said in a statement.

The statement continued: "But is there someone in your life — maybe a friend, neighbor or family member — who doesn't have a library card? Don't panic, we're here to help. This month is Library Card Sign-up month — the perfect time to double-check and make sure the people in your life aren't missing out on what the Newton Free Library has to offer."
In addition to the library card sign-up incentives, the library, located at 330 Homer St., also has been offering Behind-the-Scenes Library Tours throughout the month. The final tour is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Participants on the tour will see where the library processes new materials, get introduced to some of the library staff members, receive an up-close look at the sorter machine and learn some of the "little-known details" about the library.
Registration for the tour is required and available online. Participants are asked to meet inside the parking lot entrance.
