Holmdel Football Postseason Success Stories

Holmdel High School Football Post-Season Wrap-Up

This is a fun opportunity to share some of the great accomplishments our High School football team has made over this past season.

After the Thanksgiving Victory over Raritan High School, Sophomore Frankie Condito was awarded the MVP Trophy. It was the first win over Raritan in the Thanksgiving Tradition, and Condito played a special game amassing over 300 yards of offense and scored 3 touchdowns!

At the conclusion of the season, three Hornets were selected as post season All Stars.  Senior Quarterback Robbie Cantelli, Senior Linebacker Brett Lambert and Sophomore Linebacker Frankie Condito were all named to the Asbury Park Press All A-Central team.  Cantelli was named Second Team All Shore by the press.  Condito was named Third Team All Shore by the press. Senior Brett Lambert was named by Allshoremedia.com, Third Team All Shore.

He was also named by the Star Ledger Second Team All State, Group 2.  In early March, senior Brandon Gross was awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy by the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth County.  The award goes to one lineman in every school in Monmouth County.

Brandon was a worthy recipient of the award. He lived the very meaning of being a lineman.  An unselfish and team first player, who worked hard in anonymity along the line, to help his team any way he could. Brandon was joined by many of his teammates, coaches, family and friends at a banquet at the Sheraton of Eatontown.

On May 5th, at the Sheraton of Eatontown, four senior Hornets were given awards at the Shore Conference Coaches Associations Academic All Shore Breakfast and Media Day.

Seniors John Tascione and Kyle Kameika won All Shore Academic Awards for the Hornets. The awards criteria is (GPA, Character, on field contributions and coaches recommendation) and picked by the Shore Conference Coaches Association.  These two young men exceled on the football field, playing a large part on both sides of the ball.

They also exhibted fantastic leadership qualities on the field and in the school, and are two of the most respected student athletes in the school.  John Tascione also was selected to do the invocation and knocked it out of the park!

At that same breakfast, Seniors Robbie Cantelli and Brett Lambert were on hand as part of the All Shore Media Day.  The Monmouth County All Stars will take on the Ocean County All Stars on Thursday July 18 at Toms River High School North's field at 630 p.m.

This year, Mr Cantelli and Lambert were selected to represent Monmouth County and the Holmdel Hornets in this game.  It is a very exciting time for them! Finally, three Hornets, (SO FAR!) have made their commitment to play college football.  Senior Defensive Lineman Kyle Kameika has accepted a spot to play at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. Gettysburg is a Division 3 program in the Centenial Conference.

Kyle came a long way in four years and ended up being a very solid and strong player for us.  Kyle will benefit the Bullets program with his hard work ethic, leadership skills and his dedication to the game!

Seniors Robbie Cantelli and Brett Lambert have signed to play football at Fordham University next season.  Fordham is a Division 1AA school that plays in the Patriot League.  Robbie was on pace to break many records for the Hornets this season, rushing for close to 900 yards through 6 1/2 games before suffering a season ending broken arm. Robbie served as a Captain of our team and will bring with him to Fordham, outstanding athletic ability, toughness, strength and a great sense of humor!

Brett was our leading tackler for three straight seasons.  One of the more underrated players in the Shore Conference, Brett led our team in almost every single defensive catergory his entire career.  Brett is a great leader and a tough and instinctive player.  He will bring with him great leadership ability and potential to be a great linebacker at the next level.
