BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Back in August, the heralded Nigerian restaurant Buka reopened in Bed-Stuy after ditching its longtime home of Clinton Hill for a larger space and a backyard.

The food remains just as good, EaterNY reported after it reopened, and now the online food magazine has named Buka's fish pepper soup as one of the best dishes of the year.

EaterNY food critic Robert Sietsemas wrote that the soup made the list because of its heat, a result of "a symphony of indigenous African spices."

"The flavor is mellow, warm, and pleasantly caustic all at once, and will leave you feeling very satisfied," Sietsemas wrote.

In his original review of Buka, Sietsemas said the flavors of the soup, which features a whole tilapia sitting in broth, left him without adequate words to describe its intense flavor.

He said the dish has a "complex burning that lingers like a vivid memory."

Buka is located at 111 Fulton Place, between Classon and Franklin Avenues.
