Walt Whitman HS Homecoming Weekend Preview
A football game, carnival, bon fire, and Hall of Fame induction ceremony are all on tap for Friday and Saturday.
SOUTH HUNTINGTON, NY — Homecoming weekend at Walt Whitman High School is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The whole community is invited, the school district said.
The fun starts at 3:15 p.m. Friday all across the main Walt Whitman High School parking lot with the Homecoming Carnival.
"It’s got something for the whole South Huntington community with music, inflatable rides, dunk tank, carnival games, a petting zoo, food trucks and a return appearance by performers from Zabo’s Circus," the school district wrote.

The Homecoming Bonfire tradition continues this year, but in a new location. Because of the new solar carports in the parking lot outside the North Gym, the bonfire is being moved to the main lot. The Huntington Manor Fire Department will be on hand to light the flames at 6:15 p.m.
Powder Puff players will take the field at 7 p.m. Friday.

There will be an admission fee for the game as a fundraiser for GSO (General Student Organization): $5 at the gate, $3 in advance, and the opportunity to participate in the 50/50 and raffles. Halftime will feature the cheerleader competition between the junior and senior classes, and fireworks.
On Saturday, the district will start things off by honoring four Walt Whitman High School alumni and inducting them into the South Huntington Hall of Fame: Eliot Lonardo, Class of 1996; Dara Reid Croft, Class of 1997; Ed Wu, Class of 2006; Brittany Schiavone, Class of 2007.
A celebration breakfast and induction ceremony are slated for 11 a.m. in the North Cafeteria.
The honorees will then be part of the Homecoming Parade that heads out from Walt Whitman High School at 1 p.m. with the Whitman and Stimson Middle School marching bands, cheerleaders, sports teams, class floats, clubs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and all South Huntington schools marching onto Jericho Turnpike and back through the community before heading back to Walt Whitman High School.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Walt Whitman will play Commack in the homecoming football game.
