Barzini's Padlocked After Inspectors Find Mold, Rats, Beetles: Reports
The grocery store stayed open for more than a week after the order to close was issued.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Barzini's, the beloved Upper West Side grocery store, was closed by management on Monday night after the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets reported severe health code violations, according to local news outlet, I Love The Upper West Side.
According to the West Side Rag, the longtime business was ordered to close back on Jan. 10 after inspectors found mold, rats, and beetles, but continued business as usual until this week when they posted a sign that said “Temporarily closed for maintenance.”
The health inspection was ordered by Upper West Side Councilmember Gale Brewer, she said on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

This news comes just a month after Absolute Bagels was closed for good after similar health code violations were found by inspectors. However, Barzini's does plan to reopen, it seems.
The manager of Barzini's, Parviz Abde, told Fox 5 New York the grocery store is going to fix the health violations.

"We neglected for a couple of years to see how many people, they went out of business, they closed," Abde said. "We stay open, and we have some fault. We're going to fix it up."
Barzini's is located at 2451 Broadway, New York, NY 10024.
