Cocaine suspected

On July 15 at 9:44 p.m., police observed a motorist driving slowly and acting suspiciously while driving in the 500 block of Dewalt Drive. After a traffic stop and a subsequent search of the vehicle, police found some suspected cocaine and arrested the driver, Dana McGinnis, 42, of 2732 Crosby Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15216 on charges of possession of narcotics with intent to deliver, possession of narcotics and driving on the right side of the roadway.

Zachary Mincin, 31, of the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh, waived charges of driving under the influence and traffic violations to court on Thursday.

Mincin was cited June 5 after a sergeant observed him weaving on West Liberty Avenue about 11:30 p.m. After stopping Mincin, police said they found several empty beer bottles on the front seat. Mincin failed a field sobriety test, police said.

Harassment:

Shane Hummel, 19, no fixed address, was found guilty of reduced charges of harassment Thursday for pulling a knife on a 13-year-old girl in the 2900 block of Espy Avenue on July 13.

According to a criminal complaint, Hummel pulled the knife when the girl told her friend, Hummel's girlfriend, that she deserved better than him. That caused Hummel's girlfriend to cry, which prompted Hummel to yell at the 13-year-old and pull the knife, according to the complaint.

Hummel had been charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct.

Arrest:

James Lamar Smith, also known as James Lee Smith, no known address, was charged with disorderly conduct for after police said he caused a disturbance at the Dormont Pool on July 17.

He was taken to the station after failing to calm down and police found he had been wanted on a warrant in Allegheny County relating to a molestation charge. He was then taken to the county jail.

Acting chief Richard Dwyer credited officers with good police work, saying the man could have simply been issued a citation.
