Vinyl and CDs Return To Downtown Fredericksburg

Mike Skinner, owner of Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, has brought them back.

Shoppers to downtown Fredericksburg haven't seen compact discs and vinyl records since Blue Dog was in business, but a local businessman is bringing it all back in style.

Mike Skinner, owner of Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, had his grand re-opening Saturday at 1009 Princess Anne St. after spending two years on Caroline Street. He's got double the space in the new store—3,000 square feet—and he's added comic books, card games, arcades, compact discs, more used and new vinyl records and local art on canvas and clothing to the sales floor. He also says video games and video consoles, clothing, jewelry and other vintage items.

Skinner said he was eyeing 1009 Princess Anne St. for about year. Apple Music used to be located in the building.

"I just had to make sure all my ducks were in a row before I did it," Skinner said about leasing out the space.

He spent two months refurbishing the interior of the building with the green and purple accents that he had at the old store at 1004 Caroline St. The flooring is tiled in comic book pages, which customers thought looked awesome.

More than 150 people had visited the store after about three hours. Vinyl records were a big seller, Skinner said. Live bands started playing at 7 p.m.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades will consider buying old video games, comics and quality used vinyl records and CDs, Skinner said. Just stop on by and show him what you have.

Stores hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thurday; 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
