As a Wikipedia editor I can see references in the section preview so that I can see what the reference number refers to.

Show references while editing sections even when there is no <references/> tag in the section.
This was also requested in the 2013 technical wishes survey of the de-wiki community

If you need a gadget, that simply does the job, then you can try out this one. It's pretty cool, it works in most cases. Also - previewing page/section with it is much more faster.
While T124840: Section edit preview doesn't let you preview references defined outside the section being previewed is still unsolved it's an entirely different can of worms and should not block us from marking this baseline feature as done.
