The fawiki community has made the decision to temporarily disallow anonymous editing of articles (see consensus).
The decision was not made lightly. The community is fully aware of it being contradictory to the "free-editing" principles of Wikipedia. However, the high volume of vandalisms by IP editors, the high rates of IP hopping (which is in turns due to the high IP recycling done by ISPs is Iran, where most fawiki anonymous editors come from), the high article-to-active-user ratio, and the general consensus of anti-vandalism users (including patrollers and sysops) about their inability to keep up with the volume of vandalism led to this decision.
The duration of this temporary measure will be 2 months. The restriction will apply to the article namespace only. The community has identified a set of metrics which it will use to monitor the impact of this measure and to decide whether to discontinue it earlier, or extend it for a longer period.
I will assign the task to myself and will see through the creation and implementation of necessary patches.
