Gather, implement and test recommendations for improving language incubation

Description

This task is part of the Wikimedia Foundation department's OKR (Objectives and Key Results) work. It is connected to the Future of Language Incubation, a new experiment to implement and test recommendations to support language incubation.

High-level objectives:

  • Communities are supported to effectively close knowledge gaps through tools and support systems that are easier to access, adapt, and improve, ensuring increased growth in trustworthy encyclopedic content. Part of the Wikimedia Foundation’s Annual Plan 2024-25.
  • Obtain a clear understanding of the state of languages and the process of supporting both existing and new languages within the Wikimedia movement, as outlined in the Wikimedia Foundation’s Annual Plan 2023-24.

In December 2023, the Language team initiated discussions on improving the Incubator. Various stakeholders shared their inputs through one-on-one and asynchronous discussions on key guiding questions. Here is a compiled list of potential recommendations: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Language_engineering/Incubator_conversations. Final recommendations will be documented soon.
