Relative Pronouns
Os pronomes relativos usam-se para ligar frases, dando informação acerca da
pessoa ou coisa de que se está a falar.
WHO / THAT – remetem para pessoas
WHICH / THAT – remetem para objetos e animais
WHEN – remetem para tempo
WHERE – remetem para lugares
WHOSE – remetem para posse (cujo/cuja)

Examples:
1) That is the man who sells old cars.
2) This is the bike that my parents offered me.
3) This is the time when we usually meet.
4) That is the hospital where I was born.
5) I met a girl whose dog is black.
Examples
1) She finally met the singer Ariana Grande, whom she had always admired.
2) I feel that my French improved a lot.
3) The earrings that I bought last night are already broken.
O relativo that pode aparecer na posição do who, whom ou which, mas essa
modificação é comum na linguagem verbal:
1) The woman that came with her has already left [who]
2) The friends that we met in Brazil sent us a card [who/whom]
3) The dish that I made was delicious [which]
- Thaís is the actress [who] we met last week (Thaís é a atriz que conhecemos na
semana passada).
- The man that spoke at the meeting was very knowledgeable (O homem que
falou na reunião foi muito bem informado).
- Friday is the only day when she can rest. (Sexta é o único dia que ela pode
descansar).
- This is the neighborhood where I grew up. (Este é o bairro no qual cresci).
Examples:
1) My brother, who was born in Salvador, lived most of his life overseas.
2) He finally met soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he had always
admired.
3) James was usually late, which always annoyed his father.
