More Harry Hall –

 

A Harry Hall original shared by Terry Fitzgerald. His father, Johnnie Fitzgerald,  was a writer for the Toronto Telegram from 1929-1949. He was at one time President of the Toronto Men's Press Club. Terry writes "I believe that this cartoon resided at the TMPC club facilities on Yonge Street in downtown Toronto." I have posted several pages featuring Harry Hall. Read them HERE

Harry S. Hall Original



Graham Partington sends this original Harry S. Hall ink and paint sketch from the forties of his Grandfather Nole G. Barrow in the hospital. Hall drew Men of the Mounted and News 'N Nonsense for the Toronto Telegram.

E.R. “Ted” McCall (1901-1975)



Hall of Famer Ted McCall created the first North American comic strip dealing with the mounties, Men of the Mounted, on February 13, 1933. King of the Royal Mounted from King Features Syndicate did not begin until Sunday, February 17, 1935.

Ontario comic historian Kenneth S. Barker wrote an informative article for Inks magazine titled Men of the Mounted in 1997 and kindly provided the above information on the Men of the Mounted and Robin Hood strips. Below is the first Robin Hood strip from Sept 23 1935.

Harry Hall (1893-1954)



Harry Hall was the cartoonist who, beginning in 1933, illustrated writer Ted McCall's Men of the Mounted comic strip in the Toronto Telegram. News 'N Nonsense also apeared in the Telegram. These samples are from Sept. 18 and Sept. 20, 1937.
