Generator into shore power?

Am I right in thinking I can run my Honda EU20 Generator direct into my shore power socket on the boat? Would have a lead made up. 
Anyone else done this?

I've seen it done a number of times.  Just need to take the normal precautions of running a portable unit (ie, not inside the boat).

I believe you can also energize the circuit by just plugging into one of the normal receptacles.  But I am guessing, rather wait for someone who's done this before (there's a few on this site who have).

I would use the normal shore power connection and not a circuit (outlet) in the boat.  Using the shore power connection, you will still have the proper current protection.

They make specific adapters from 110v to your 30a boat connector.

Yes, that's obviously the better way to go, as it keeps everything as per design. But I've heard of guys plugging into the receptacle, probably if they needed to quickly power something up.

Is that the same as the Honda 2000? Google it, there is a lot of info out there on boaters using the 2000 watt Honda to power up to a 16,000 BTU Marine Air conditioner.

I have a Ryobi generator and it runs my A/C and stove, but not at the same time. I have a 15A to 30A adapter and a short 12 gauge extension cord.

Yes the EU20 is the Honda 2000. In the uk they call them the EU20i. Will make such a difference at sea. We don't really have to worry about Airconditioning here so will just use for the Tv and lighting and poss the cooker. Home sweet home!

@russelh, no need for a "stiff upper lip, mate! :-) Some of the small Hondas will run HVAC and there is a small Yahama that is specifically set for surge capability to handle HVAC compressor start-up surge.....if the muggy English summer and crisp fall weather become an issue! :-)

same thing as we do here in Fl with the hurricanes...plug into the 220 dryer plug in....I would agree to make or buy an adapter and plug it into the shore power otherwise might be to much juice just plugging into just an outlet...not an electrical guy but that would make sense to me.

I bought this portable generator from Harbor Freight last year. Works great and is very quiet but I'm sure it's not as light as the Honda. Would it be able to power the boat if I use the correct cable pluged into the shore power connector? I don't have AC, would be used for lights,fridge,stove and microwave if needed.

Is this the correct cable to get?

The Marinco I saw used for this application was called a Dock Side 15A to a Boat Side 30A

I believe the Marinco number was PC15-30. It should cost about $80.

If you have any doubts I have spoken with Marinco personnel in the past and they were super!

Okay, I just looked at your link. I believe what your link shows is correct, but - it is a much older version. I would spend the extra $30 and get the new EEL version as it lights-up to show proper connectivity and is a LOT easier to use.
