**New Texas Law HB 114 requires Texas school districts to place students in DAEP if caught vaping or in possession of vaping device**
HB 114 was passed during this last Legislative session to address the growing problem of vaping in Texas public schools. The new law makes possession and/or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement) offense. Dickinson ISD is now required by law to place students in possession of vapes at school at the Dickinson Alternative Learning Center (DALC). Vaping at schools reached epidemic proportions last year at Dickinson ISD and across the whole state of Texas. In addition to health hazards and obvious legal issues, vaping at schools sets off the fire alarm and causes an evacuation of schools interrupting valuable instructional time. We will review this new law with student, and we are asking parent to reiterate the importance of students leaving vapes at home. Please be aware that Dickinson ISD will comply with the new law requiring mandatory DAEP placement; we greatly appreciate your support.
