In this study, we demonstrate an all-fiber high-power linearly-polarized tunable Raman fiber laser system. An inhouse high-power tunable fiber laser was employed as the pump source. A fiber loop mirror (FLM) serving as a high reflectivity mirror and a flat-cut endface serving as an output coupler were adopted to provide broadband feedback. A piece of 59-m commercial passive fiber was used as the Raman gain medium. The Raman laser had a 27.6 nm tuning range from 1112 nm to 1139.6 nm and a maximum output power of 125.3 W, which corresponds to a conversion efficiency of 79.4%. The polarization extinction ratio (PER) at all operational wavelengths was measured to be over 21 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on a hundred-watt level linearly-polarized tunable Raman fiber laser.

A novel in-band optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) measurement technique based on polynomial fitting function with high performance is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By introducing a polynomial function to fit the normalized autocorrelation function of the signal, the OSNR can be measured without the requirement for any prior knowledge of the signals. The OSNR measurement range from 0 to 26 dB with error less than μ0.5 dB is realized for 4-channel 32-Gbaud PDM-QPSK signals separated by 37.5-GHz channel intervals, and the upper limit of the measurement range is enlarged from 22 dB (without polynomial fitting function) to 26 dB, which is a significant improvement, especially for advanced modulation formats. Further experimental investigations also demonstrate that the OSNR measurement technique is robust to the bandwidth of the filter, bit rate of signal, input optical power, and chromatic dispersion. In addition, simulation results show that the technique may be potentially compatible with different modulation formats.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers worldwide with a high mortality rate. Prognosis remains poor even in this era of advanced medicine mainly due to early metastasis and invasion. The present study aimed to explore and validate predictors of distant metastasis and prognosis in pancreatic cancer. In our preliminary experiment, we established a novel metastatic pancreatic cancer cell line BxPC‑M8 from parent BxPC‑3 cells. Via whole genome sequencing, RT‑qPCR, western blotting, migration and invasion assays, we initially found that BxPC‑M8 shared similar biological characteristics to BxPC‑3, but only differed in enhanced metastatic and invasive capabilities with a significant increase in collagen type VI α1 chain (COL6A1) expression. Knockdown of COL6A1 via small interfering RNA led to a significant decrease in migration and invasion of BxPC‑M8 cells, suggesting suppressed epithelial‑mesenchymal transition. Furthermore, a significant increase in COL6A1 expression was observed in cancerous tissue compared with paracancerous tissue (40.7 vs 3.7, P=0.001). Additionally, its expression was observed to be significantly associated with distant metastasis and vascular invasion at the time of surgery. Multivariate analysis revealed that COL6A1 expression (hazard ratio 1.90, 95% confidence interval 1.04‑3.47, P=0.037) is an independent predictor of overall survival (OS). The median OS observed for COL6A1+ and COL6A1‑ patients was found to be 8±4 and 14±7 months (P=0.021), respectively. Of note, we identified that COL6A1 expression in tissue samples was associated with significantly reduced OS (P=0.001), demonstrating that COL6A1 may serve an important role in the metastatic process and could be considered as a predictor of poor outcomes in patients with pancreatic cancer. In addition, our findings suggest that COL6A1 could be an indicator of distant metastasis and a valid prognostic predictor in such patients; however, further investigation is required.

To accurately model and simulate a sonar reverberation signal, the present study established four types of multipath sound ray seabed reverberation models that take the Doppler effect into consideration under the condition that the sound source and the hydrophone are separated. We then simulated the seabed reverberation signal considering a single-point separate transceiver and horizontal towed linear array in static or uniform linear motion. The seafloor reverberation signals in the element space and beam space were obtained, and the space-time characteristics and Doppler spread of our results were consistent with the theoretical analysis. The simulation results of the improved model show that under the transceiver device’s motion conditions, the amplitude of the reverberation signal envelope of the single-point transceiver and transceiver changes following the sine and cosine law. Accordingly, the signal pulse width and spectrum have changed, and the frequency shift of the horizontally dragged linear array reverberation signal is approximately sinusoidal with the linear array directivity angle. Our findings clearly show that the improved model presented in this study can simulate the reverberation signal significantly more accurately than the traditional models presented in the current literature.

There are often residual images of the camera tripod in panoramic images, which may reduce the image quality and deteriorate the post-processing speed. To address this problem, a camera tripod removal network (TRNet) based on generative adversarial network is proposed. As an end-to-end model, the generator is designed to include recognition and reconstruction branches, which reduce the number of parameters and improve the training efficiency by sharing the encoder and correspond to scaffold recognition and texture reconstruction respectively. The recognition branch based on the U-Net structure can effectively identify the tripod area, while the reconstruction branch can brilliantly reconstruct the texture details through an intermediate layer formed by stacking dilated convolution residual blocks. Furthermore, spectral normalized Markov discriminator and multiple combined loss function are adopted to promote global texture consistency and thus result in a better texture filling effect. Finally, a data set of 400 panoramic images is constructed and experimental results on this data set demonstrate the better repair ability of TRNet against other state-of-the-art methods.
