M'alayah
Appearance
The M'alayah (Arabic: معلايه or معلاية / ALA-LC: ma‘alāyah) is a popular Arab dancing art that is performed at weddings. It is centered in northern Oman, the northeast of the United Arab Emirates, and North Africa. The M'alayah dance is based on rapid movements of certain parts of the body: mainly the buttocks, and the dance is usually harmonised with local popular folk songs. The M'alayah dance is performed in the presence of women, with singers present, or those present to encourage and support, or to catch money thrown by the attendees, most of whom are men.[1]
