The Vandalic War was a war between the Byzantine Empire (or the Eastern Roman Empire) and the Vandals in what is now Tunisia. It was the first of Justinian I's wars of reconquest.
History
[change | change source]After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Germanic people have taken over many former Roman territories. The Vandals had taken over Roman Africa. Emperor Justinian wanted to retake control of these lands. In 533, he sent an army from Constantinople. Byzantine commander Belisarius was able to take control of Carthage.
After the Battle of Tricamarum, the Vandals were defeated.
