Chenzw has nominated this page for deletion for the reason: Fails GNG. I couldn't find RS with either his pen-name or real name. Cited sources in the article consist mostly of book reviews given by unknown third parties (no proof of credentials). Chenzw Talk 14:21, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[change source]- Delete. Many of the references also fail verification; subject fails GNG and Notability (people). User:Rus793 (talk) 15:49, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - Hello, I created this article in the first place and Omer Tarin is a very well-known name, here in Pakistan as well as South Asia generally. As far as the online/onternet notability standards are concerned, they are not necessarily sacrosant and there are many famous people who dont necessarily have material online, but have a number large number of printed material available about them, both in the press and in scholarly research. I think that this isnt about a vote here, its about representing various well-know people, especially artists,. poets writers etc, from various places equitably and to increase the sum of general knowledge. If there are portions that dont live up to any standards we can always adapt/remove and re-edit, and I would strongly urge such a case. - Keep , Omer Tarin is a Pakistani poet writing in English and also occasionally Urdu , and his work is widely read and reviewed here and has also been included in many journals, literary reviews, anthologies etc abroad. For example, a review by Prof Alamgir Hashmi may be seen here http://jch.sagepub.com/content/33/3/99.extract and similarly, also here http://www.vallummag.com/essay_blaine_marchand.html . And some new poems can be read here online http://www.prachyareview.com/two-poems-by-omer-tarin/ (2015 Sept issue) and also in this journal http://www.bitteroleander.com/issues.html (Spring 2012 issue). Some of his books are also reviewed and listed in various library catalogs, including Google Books, and also the British Library, the Library of Congress and other such library catalogs etc. He also writes articles occasionally and gives comments and reviews of books etc, in Pakistan (see http://jang.com.pk/thenews/jun2010-weekly/nos-27-06-2010/spr.htm) . I think that there are also many literary and academic, scholarly reviews about his work, published in various places. It would be good to keep this writer-poet, I think, in view of these facts, thanks. 39.54.178.133 (talk) 08:30, 30 December 2015 (UTC)SyedB2015[reply]
- Comment: The review by Alamgir Hashmi is not available to the public. Is there any editor with access? Also, http://www.vallummag.com/essay_blaine_marchand.html seems to only mention Omer Tarin in the context that he was mentored by Taufiq Rafat. Other assertions made in that essay are non-specific (eg. "Modern poets who live in Pakistan..."). I have also taken the opportunity to access ProQuest and look up his pen-name (no results) and real name (1 result in a local newspaper, describing Omer's research on a house in Abbottabad that was allegedly haunted). Disclaimer: ProQuest does not have full-text coverage of every publication. Chenzw Talk 09:10, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment dear Chenzw, reg my above note and your comment. The whole point is, that we should try to be inclusive and not exclusive. And while I'm not a regular editor, here, on Wikipedia, I think that there is ample evidence of various literary and other publications by poet Omer Tarin (also spelt Omar Tarin), and also a number of reliable secondary sources about him and his works. Maybe, such works are not always available online, but they certainly are published in reputable publications here. I think that one problem is, that many older reviews in reputable newspapers, magazines and journals in Pakistan (pre 2001-2002) are not available online at all. And I also think that ProQuest type search bodies dont always reflect the actual worth or general notability of people, these are very randomly selective. I strongly believe that it would be quite unfortunate if this article is arbitrarily deleted, despite meeting Wikipedia standards of General Notability as well as Reliability of Sources, just on the basis of the excuse that they are not available online. I would encourage you to please have a positive approach, thanks. I'm sure that we can surely find some way of proving notability?
