Teenage Strangler (Philo & The Wraymen) (LYRICS) by Philo Gristle published on 2014-04-25T12:10:33Z I wrote "Teenage Strangler" last year, attempting to tackle a 50's b-movie theme: Juvenile delinquents and horror with a bit of Corman-school social commentary. In other words, entertainment with a twist. Having had 'great success' with my previous mashup, reworking Warren Zevon to the tune of The Catalinas (https://soundcloud.com/philo-gristle/lawyers-guns-money-philo-the), I prowled through my own lyrics stash while listening to a bunch of great instrumental tunes. Lo and behold, the lightning strikes, and again Frankenstein's Monster rears its ugly head. In actuality, this is a slowed-down instrumental from the great Link Wray during his Swan years, b-side to 1963's "Week End" called "Turnpike U.S.A." which I bastardized by spewing my lyrics on top of it. My apologies to Link, god among mere mortals. Somebody with more talent could make this a nifty little garage original. Check out the full-speed original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCM_b51NA9M And buy some vintage Link Wray on vinyl from the good folk at Norton Records: http://nortonrecords.gostorego.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?limit=all&q=link+wray Teenage Strangler, USA (Gristle/Wray) Down in the alley behind Louie's Bar The strangler sees the weasel ogling out the bazaar Sleazy like Soho, but no Ripper tonight Nearby sound the sirens for a gang fight The chains slam and rattle The Strangler's all astraddle Like tiger after cattle, ready for the squeeze No! No! No! Next day the papers say "The Strangler Strikes Again!" But the Strangler goes to school, just another day Tomorrow's for the youth, so why not today? The Strangler figures 'time to make them adults pay.' The kids yak and gamble The froggie gets the scalpel The Strangler's hippocampal's on a losing streak Hop! Hop! Hop! (instrumental break) When the night comes around, back at Louie Louie The Strangler's after another, when the bullets start to fly The lights flare up, out comes the press release: "The Teenage Strangler's shot down by the police" The cops are in a huddle The Strangler's in a puddle All couples in a cuddle now that the world is safe Go! Go! Go! "Teenage Killer!" scream the news next day They're selling all out, making plenty of hay Captain and the Chaplain and the Senator all pray "Let's let another loose, make it Judgement Day!" Big brass won't let go All the kids now hear is "no!" If tomorrow's for the youth, then why not today?
