Messages[edit source]

Melon247, this is Chrona (I've been updating the Petz Dogz 2 Fish page). To answer your question, yes, I have caught all the fish in the game. Throughout my objective to do this I discovered that many fish (more than the table currently indicates) can be found in more than one location. I intend to put that information in as I get it, but I have at least one location for every fish as of now.

However, I do have a favor to ask. I can't figure out how to add the last fish onto the Fish page table, as there is only one fish left, but the table is apparently set up in columns of 3...and, as I tried to add it, I shifted the table somewhat, so I undid my work. Since you are probably far more familiar with the editing code than I, you may add the last fish, which is a Golden Angler Fish, and can be caught in Polar Fields (sea pier). Thank you so much. Please Melon247 I need help I copied what you told me and I got this --<span style="color:green">Wiki</span><span style="color:blue">man</span><span style="color:yellow">6</span><span style="color:red">2</span><span style="color:gray">5</span> 19:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)!

Thanks Melon i got it down! --Wikiman625 12:54, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Melon247, How do you get yourself to have (talk · contribs · competition) at the end of your name?

And how did you upload the picture? --Wikidude321 22:27, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sorry it was a typo I was trying to show my brother how to do it his name is Wikidude321 and I must've accidently logged into my account instead. XD --Wikiman625 13:08, 10 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks[edit source]

Thanks for the nomination and the kind words, I appreciate it. --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 22:01, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thought I'd let you know I moved the color chart, so it's no longer sitting on a test page that I might clear on a whim. I moved it so the test page will redirect for a while, but eventually I'll probably have something I want to mess with to overwrite the redirect. --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 02:41, 13 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Dog Island[edit source]

Hey, just giving you a heads up that I just got the PS2 version of The Dog Island and am 3 hours in. I'll be sure to give the guide a good thorough proof read while playing through. Goodness, that game is the most adorable thing ever. --Zaiqukaj 10:57, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I got kind of burnt out on The Dog Island, so I haven't gotten very far on my game on the PS2, but what we could really use is a control selector with the PS2 controls added anywhere on the guide that just has Wii controls right now. Thanks for taking this game up! - najzereT 15:14, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey, Melon247. I'm --Thedogboss. I'm a new user and I wanted to know, what was the hardest part of this game to you. Mine was either the Anc Road, the Kunka Ruins, or the special flour.

Re: Forum block[edit source]

You aren't blocked on the forums... --Skizzerz 00:35, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

IRC[edit source]

I do not mind any questions from you Melon. If you ever wonder about something then please ask away. :3 The computer I normally edit on can not access it. Once I can use my home computer I tend to simply forget to try to figure out how IRC works. Beyond that I have learned that I get absolutely nothing done if the option for chatting is available instead (and Zaiqukaj is technically not very outgoing). --Zaiqukaj 21:29, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well you now have the honor of being the final variable to get me to take a look at the forums. --Zaiqukaj 22:31, 18 May 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Competition[edit source]

I think I'm going to bow out of the competition for this time around, but it's just because I have too many guides I want to work on right now that are partially started. In fact, I've been staying out of IRC for the most part lately for the same reason. Hopefully I can get a couple of guides up to a decent place, then I'll feel comfortable starting another guide when the next competition comes up. --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 23:56, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Competition rules[edit source]

I was wondering if Sigma7's choice for the competition is acceptable. E.V.O.: Search for Eden already has a controls page and a cheats page started. If you ignore these for the competition, maybe you should edit the rules a bit to tell us what we are being judged on (walkthrough only?). The pages aren't a big deal anyways, but it will give him a head start. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 00:31, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I was thinking about that. If you think about it then what happens if someone picks a simulation game? Although I guess they aren't likely to have too many pages anyway. I was thinking about having a rule that pages already started won't count in the competition. Maybe I'll add a "pages started" section so I remember which ones they are. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 08:42, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey Melon, I had a new idea for a competition (maybe the next one in July can be this way): each person starts a guide like normal, but they have to try and do their best with a guide for a game that they've never played nor have access to. What I mean is, they would have to search online and research the game using a pre-existing walkthrough and do everything that way. What do you think? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 04:58, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sounds like a good idea, I guess, but maybe I'll wait until there's a few more people entering the competition first so I don't put people off. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 07:43, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It would be fun to have variant requirements that change (I love this idea). Like the suggested “yet to be played game” or we could at some point have something like “adopt a completion lv 0-1 page”. There are lot’s of possibilities here. --Zaiqukaj 14:48, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think these probably work better than "collab of the month" style encouragements because a lot of our users don't play or have access to the same games. Because these promote "play your favorite game" or "play some strange game you've been meaning to get around to", people like us are more likely to just jump in. Hard to say since I've only been watching it play out on a small scale. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:44, 26 June 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Character page[edit source]

Why are you putting images of Emilio and Maria? These will be whatever breed the player chooses, with whatever accessories the player chooses. Emilio, Maria, Mar and Doluk shouldn't be pictured, but rather noted in their descriptions that your family is determined by the breed you choose. — najzereT 07:48, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I didn't originally put images of them, I just thought since there was an image of Emilio, there might as well be one of Maria. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 08:06, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Like I said, I haven't made it up to the latest edits to the Characters page in recent changes, but those images should just be removed. I'll just respond here about the cutscene locations too, since I see you've just left me another message =P. Yeah, exactly like in your example of Dr. Potan. No one will be able to use that information to find the dog (which I think is the purpose of the locations) and they're going to see the cutscene regardless. — najzereT 15:32, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We should keep the Puroro Town bit on Dr. Potan, since he sends you letters and stuff from there, and they won't go looking for himn there because they can't. And also, why can't we have images of maria and emilio and mar? It shows basically what they look like, and it mentions that they use the same breed as you. And also you can't choose Emilio/Maria's accessories... --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 15:35, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, I already changed the page before I saw you responded, but the reason is simply that it serves no purpose. The images will be inaccurate for the vast majority of readers and it's already explained in their descriptions that their appearance is variable. As for Dr. Potan, that would be a good thing to add to his description if it's not already there. — najzereT 21:28, 1 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There are a few other things I thought of. Technically you do have to talk to Elaine, so shouldn't she be in supporting characters? And also you never actually need to speak to Hope, Cherry, Darna, Derrick or Dougal, yet they're in the supporting characters. Thia is probably more directed at Hope since all the other shopkeepers on the island are in minor charcters. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 07:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Unless there's some sort of official classification (i.e. villains), why not just alphabetize them all? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:56, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think that's a good idea but naj seems to think he's the boss of the Dog Island guide or something so it seems to be up to him where stuff goes and who's allowed to put what where (no fair). --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 10:47, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Elaine seems kind of borderline, since she's just a part of a mission for another dog, but the others are all special as gateways to in-game features (new product creation and collector books). The problem with alphabetizing is there are too many characters on the page. I've mentioned before that there is no need to catalogue every single character in the game, but with over 100 dogs on the page it seemed prudent to break them up into meaningful sections. We could use alphabetTOC, but I'd be more in favor of just removing most of the characters from the page.
Melon, if you don't like collaborating then I'd suggest you don't start lengthy debates about every change to the guide. Plenty of people, including yourself, have edited The Dog Island with zero input from me, so don't let any differences of opinion on talk pages color your perception. At any rate, I can't have made all bad decisions since you've copied the layout heavily for other guides, right? :P — najzereT 15:49, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Unless the NPC has a purpose, they should not be listed. Otherwise, group them together. If the ToC is bothersome, don't use a custom ToC. If it is too large, combine sections or change the layout to a table, remove excess information and include only what is pertinent (location(s), rewards/quests/items related to them, etc.). Remember that you can easily fit those images into a table by resizing them (letting the server do it) to something like 60 pixels wide. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:38, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's a tough call on which NPCs (if any) actually serve a purpose on a characters page. If you're following the walkthrough you'll know where they are, and I'm pretty sure their locations are noted on the auxiliary pages as well. Other than where to find them, there's not much else except fluff like pictures and descriptions. The toc is a nightmare, so I'm all for cutting down the size of the page so it's unnecessary. I think NMH is right about a table format as well, as with shorter descriptions the name, picture, location and description could lend themselves well to table format. The hard decisions will be whom to keep and remove. — najzereT 21:29, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Comptetion template[edit source]

Hey, you probably saw I edited your template to make the date stay as the date you put the template on the talk page instead of just the current date. I also changed the the color of the date to red from scarlet, because I wasn't sure if that's a good color code or not (the date showed up as black in Firefox). So anyway, if it was showing the correct color for you in IE, then you'll need to find a close color in hex if you want everyone to see it. I'm not sure what your idea of scarlet is, but here are some examples. The hexidecimal code is the one bolded and beginning with a hash symbol. You'd use it like <span style="color:#ff2400;">colored text</div>. — najzereT 11:09, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Naj means <span style="color:#ff2400;">colored text</span> --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:36, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

TDI Wiki[edit source]

Thanks for letting me know about this. :D I tend to focus my wiki energies here but I will go lurk around there and pitch in when I can. --Zaiqukaj 13:53, 14 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dog Island maps[edit source]

 1. with patterns
 2. plain

Do either of these look good, or at least better than the current blurry screenshots? — najzereT 13:30, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Okay, I think this one is pretty good. — najzereT 06:09, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah it's pretty good, but is it missing labels? I.e. NPCs or whatever? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:51, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, there are different places in the guide where it would be used with different labels. This is just the base on which we can put whatever is needed for the circumstance. By the way, do you have any suggestions to make it look better? — najzereT 08:03, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think it's better than the original because there's more detail (although on the original there is a circular object on the right that is not included) and the image is crisp. The only thing that could make it better are vector graphics, but I know that's a real pain. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 09:53, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The circular object is a circus tent that only appears near the end of the game. --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 10:14, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well it should probably be included unless you're going to have a second map later on. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:16, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The tent is kind of spoiler and it's optional. For the majority of game, if it's on there, a reader will probably wonder what it is. — najzereT 23:44, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Okay, this is my final draft of the map itself. I toned down the scan lines, swapped the brown for dark green (like in the actual map) and added effect to the water. I put some sample labels on there for some input as to what looks best. There's a bunch of different bug location labels, and I tried out a few styles of displaying items. For the dogs, I just used the simple graphic from the game with a name underneath, but there may be a better way to do that too. — najzereT 07:18, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The Dog Island labels look great. Of the text labels, I would go with D or E because they have high contrast and provide viewers the ability to see around the label more than one like A. If you go with D, I would turn down the transparency on the outer circle a little more. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:23, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
We decided on white and blue for label colors, so it will look like E, but with blue in the center. — najzereT 00:22, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alex[edit source]

I'm pretty sure all dogs, or at least more than just Alex, say something different depending on your health. If you have full health, they say you look good and if not, they say you look tired and should rest. — najzereT 12:36, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The other dogs that say it are Obaba and Francis. Most of the dogs have a set thing to say to you, but it seems like the ones that you interact with earlier and are finished with get that health talk as a sort of filler. There may be other dogs (Yi Lu, Potan, etc.) that do the same thing throughout the course of the game, but I'd have to play through again to find out. — najzereT 01:03, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Garou: Mark of the Wolves/Custom Input[edit source]

What is the meaning of this page? --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 20:25, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

It is a labour saving device similer to Nav. It is used to predefine colors on this move list. Without it, color defenitons would have to be repeated for every single charecter. Blue Phoenix 20:49, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your request for Adminiship was deemed successful, so welcome aboard! First things first, you might need to log out and back in again to gain access to the extra buttons, and then again you might not. After that, add your name to the admin listing at the appropriate location (at the end of the "Active Members" list). Then, acquaint yourself with our policies and the admin guide. If you have any questions, feel free to poke me on my talk page, ask in the forums, the Staff Lounge, or in IRC. --Skizzerz 18:41, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Congrats on the adminship! If I had been around when the discussion was going on I would have added to the support. You are always so eager and quick to learn. --Zaiqukaj 19:53, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Welcome to the team Melon. Since you are already used to using Rollback, the only thing you need to really know how to do is patrol edits effectively. Good luck! If you would like, I can help introduce you to some of these added privileges by letting you complete a task that I am on (like deleting a page or hiding an edit). I have also added you to the Sysop edit statistics table on my user page. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 21:01, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks guys :D. Thanks for the offer, NMH, but I'll probably encounter stuff like that on my own, and if I do have a problem I'd go over to chat since it's easier than someone leaving a message on my talk page (for them, anyway). --Melon247 Hammy, my hamster. Cute! (talk · contribs · comp) 07:54, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
My belated congratulations as well. I was out of town for the weekend on a really poor internet connection ;/ --~Vizeroth · (c)~-- 23:39, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Banning vandals[edit source]

Hi Melon. Thanks for your help with this as well. Don't bother banning the IPs, this is an attack and those IPs are most likely faked. If this continues, we may have to lock the site down to anon edits for a period of time. Procyon 13:45, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Typically you we would ban the IPs, but if they are really just editing one time from each proxy, then it's not worth our time banning them. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:25, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Lots of edits (with comments) is good[edit source]

Thanks for your feedback ("User talk:Skierpage#Consolidate your edits"), but I disagree. Surely it's far easier to identify and review a specific edit with a great comment like "→Boo's Mansion: all red coins, the yellow and green platforms)" than an amorphous "Made changes" that covers dozens of changes.

an administrator has to patrol every one of the changes you make.
you know you can always select a range of edits and compare the start and end versions to get the same effect?

Everything I've read about version control systems suggests a check-in for each change is less prone to error, easier to review, easier to revert. If you're complaining that lots of edits fills up "Recent changes" and "User contributions", I agree; MediaWiki should generate HTML that collapses those into "Super Mario 63/Walkthrough Skierpage : seven edits [+]". You could file enhancement bugs for what will make patrolling easier at http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/

I want to help, and since your feedback I've tried to make bigger edits, but I don't really understand. Cheers and thanks, -- Skierpage 21:45, 8 October 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Contests[edit source]

Next time you feel like having a contest, you can add a notice to the noticeboard on StrategyWiki:Community Portal so you can potentially get more people interested. -- Prod (Talk) 06:44, 1 February 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Upcoming meeting[edit source]

As a reminder, there is a meeting this Saturday, May 29, on IRC taking place at 2:00pm EDT (UTC -4). As always, agenda is available on the forums, so you may view it and suggest additions there. Hope to see you there! --Skizzerz 04:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Color Codes[edit source]

Hi, Melon247! I have a favor to ask: Can you PLEASE tell me how to give my letters colors? Just all the rainbow colors is enough. You are the best! Plus you're the only person that obviously knows how to do it (according to your signature). Thank you true, Comet 7 (talk) 05:35, 28 December 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You can look at how Melon set up her signature, or anyone with a custom signature (like myself) by clicking edit to see a section where they signed. For example, I copied Melon's signature as an example (here is the code):
 • 20:25, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
 1. The part you want to look at is . This is a template.
 2. You can copy the contents of it and make your page: User:Comet 7/My sig. Modify the code however you like to be specific to you and have different colors.
 3. Go to Preferences. The link is usually at the top right of the page.
 4. In the middle of Preferences, there is a "Signature" section. In the box, put
 5. Click Save at the bottom left of the page to save the change to your preferences.
