Ms. Pac-Man is released in arcades by Midway, becoming a smash success arguably big enough to rival her husband's. The NEC PC-98, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum all become very successful on the computer side. On a more grim note, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and a port of Pac-Man are released for the Atari 2600, which have become some of the most maligned games ever and are considered (not that they actually were) part of the cause for the 1983 video game crash. A slew of consoles are also released in North America, further saturating an already-crowded video game market there. Intel releases the 80286 (more commonly known as i286), a 16-bit microprocessor for PC's.
