In 2005, it was primarily an Autobot command base during fight against Decepticon-controlled Cybertron. Many Autobots were stationed on Moonbase One, including Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Ironhide, Prowl, Brawn, and the Dinobots, but only Jazz and Cliffjumper were left behind when Optimus Prime went to provide reinforcements to Autobot City.
Not too long afterwards, Moonbase One was targeted and devoured by Unicron. It spent a while being slowly digested within Unicron's bowels, up until he was obliterated by a mystical glowing thingy. The Transformers: The Movie
Deviations
After making a deal with Starscream and upgrading him into "Megascream", Unicron devoured the moon while the Decepticon leader attacked Optimus Prime's shuttle. Soundwave reported the moon's destruction to Megascream which prompted him to abandon the attack and return to Cybertron to confront the Chaos Bringer regarding the terms of their agreement. It remained within Unicron's bowels until Hot Rod blew him up. Transformers: Deviations

Luna 1 was one of Cybertron's two moons, populated by Mini-Cons. During the Golden Age of Cybertron, Moon Base One was built there. The base was occupied by Starscream's Seekers during the civil war, and Sentinel Prime was imprisoned there after a disagreement with Megatron after he was kidnapped and taken to Kaon. Exodus

In Cybertron's earliest days, Adaptus of the Guiding Hand proposed attacking their neighbouring planets so that the crucible of conflict would force the Cybertronian race to evolve. Cast out for his violent ambitions, he fled to a hidden base on Luna 1 where he blasted the planet with an electromagnetic weapon, wiping the memories of the populace and creating what would become known as "information creep". Exploiting the mass confusion below, Adaptus cloaked the moon and built a set of planetary engines while researching interstellar travel, discovering and fleeing into the Warren. The moon's departure was glimpsed by the disoriented Primus who would retain vague memories of its loss. The Unremembering With his impromptu starship, Adaptus arrived in the year 2018, witnessing a giant effigy of Primus rip Mederi to shreds. Dumbstruck with horror, Adaptus fled back to his native time and began preparing to face this threat. The Return of the King The Unremembering
As a result of the information creep, Luna 1's true fate went unrecorded on Cybertron, with most believing it had been either destroyed, or cast away, during the God War. You, Me, and Other Revelations The God War This religious version of events didn't roll with everyone, and instead a common belief among Cybertronians was that the "Seething Moon", as it was nicknamed, had simply been lost in space somehow. Many believed that if found, the legendary satellite would hold answers to many mysteries. Before & After Others like Trailbreaker didn't believe it existed at all. The Chaos of Warm Things
Over the years, many attempts were made to find Luna 1, but none were successful. Tailgate claimed to have coordinated the first search in the time of Nova Prime over six million years ago. How Ratchet Got His Hands Back Senator Shockwave desired to find both Luna 1 and Nova's Ark, using his influence in the Senate to look for them. Post Hoc Dominus Ambus and Rewind also went on a hunt for it, returning empty-handed some time after the war had broken out. Before & After At least one more "Moonquest" took place during the war when Hot Rod vowed to find Luna 1, this time with Swerve partaking in it. You, Me, and Other Revelations How to Say Goodbye and Mean It
When Vector Sigma was reignited, Cybertron automatically began reviving its moons as well by transmitting energy to them, but the absence of Luna 1 caused its share of the energy to gather in the atmosphere instead. The atmosphere was superheated into a plasma state, causing "ball lightning" effects to strike Cybertron's surface until Wheeljack put up a temporary satellite to draw the energy away. Stick Together
Under unknown circumstances, Adaptus had abandoned the moon where it was eventually found by the disgraced Chief Justice Tyrest who turned it into his personal base of operations using it as a storage bay for the countless Titan corpses his Titan Hunters had brought back to him, cannibalizing their innards for space bridge parts. House of Ambus
In late 2013, the fatally wounded Ultra Magnus activated his recall trigger, the Magnus Armor's protocols opening a portal to Luna 1 that the Lost Light followed him through. To the surprise of the crew, they found that Luna 1 was already inhabited—by no fewer then a billion people. After assembling a team of explorers and descending to the surface, Rodimus discovered that the "people" on Luna 1 were in fact dormant sparks, all of which became active once more as soon as he set foot on the ground. Luna 1 was a hot spot, a place where sparks were born, called the Seething Moon because it was seething with life.
The happy moment was soon ruined when the group was ambushed by the Titan Hunters and Pharma. The Fecund Moon
While pursued by the Titan Hunters, the team discovered an enormous field of dead Titans. When flying into the Titans' corpses to escape their attackers failed, most of the team was captured and brought to face Chief Justice Tyrest, who was using Luna 1 as his own personal moonbase. House of Ambus
Rodimus returned to the hot spot after Tyrest's defeat but was unable to get it to re-ignite. He speculated that the field had only ignited because he held a piece of the Matrix of Leadership, and with it destroyed in the foiling of Tyrest's plans the hot spot returned to dormancy. Rodimus scattered the Matrix fragments over the spark field before departing Luna 1; Fortress Maximus and Red Alert stayed behind to deal with Decepticon activity in the region. The Autobots who remained on the moon eventually found the engines and wrote a report detailing the mysterious sites on the moon. After reading it, Prowl had trouble accepting the existence of the engines. Ten to Midnight As Fortress Maximus travelled the galaxy to enforce the Tyrest Accord, Red Alert remained on the moon to provide with intelligence and updates. Animals
After Sentinel Prime came back to life, The Last Autobot Arcee informed Prowl, White Light who realized his old boss would head to Luna 1 to enact his old plan of using a Titan to wipe Cybertron clean.
Arriving on Luna 1, Prowl (after being attacked by Fortress Maximus) shut down the Autobot Spacebridge to try and force Sentinel to arrive via starship. Sentinel arrived via a still operational Spacebridge within one of the deceased Titans before he used Sovereign to reanimate the Titans intending to use Luna 1's quantum engines to create a massive Spacebridge to Cybertron for his army to pass through. Ten to Midnight Though most of his army made it through, he ultimately perished. In the aftermath, Prowl decided to stay on Luna 1 so as to take a long overdue sabbatical, Last Light but soon left to combat the rising threat of the Maximals. The Dead Come Home, Part 1
To defeat the Functionist Council's avatar of Primus, Team Rodimus hit on a plan to exploit Vector Sigma's connection to the planet's hot spots. The connections however were severed when Cybertron was transformed into robot mode prompting Rodimus to call in Fortress Maximus to have him ram Luna 1 into the avatar's neural cluster, reverting it to planet mode. When the group flooded Vector Sigma with Matrix energy, the supercomputer shunted the excess energy to Luna 1 where it served to reignite the hot spot. A Spark Among Embers
Luna 1 was subsequently left in orbit of New Cybertron and birthed forth the Lunarians in what became known as the "Bronze Harvest". How To Say Goodbye And Mean It: Part 2

Notes
- Cybertron's two (or three, or four) moons were first shown in the movie. At no point were any Cybertronian satellites seen in the first two seasons of the cartoon, making their presence in the movie a bit of a mystery. However, a "drunken" Megatron does refer to Cybertron as 'the land of the metal moon' in "Microbots".
- The alternate Beast Wars: Uprising name "Hecate" comes from the Greek goddess of magic and the new moon.
