Three years of Dhanush's Maari 2: Interesting facts about the film

Maari 2 is an action comedy drama written and directed by Balaji Mohan. The film is a sequel to Maari (2015), which also has Dhanush playing the lead along with Sai Pallavi. The star cast for the film includes Tovino Thomas, Krishna and Vidya Pradeep. Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Om Prakash and editing by Prasanna GK.

Though Tovino Thomas had earlier appeared in Abhiyum Anuvum, which was a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam, Maari 2 marked his debut as antagonist in Kollywood. Playing Maari's arch rival Thanatos in the film, Tovino impressed everyone with his performance right in his maiden venture. Interestingly, he hasn't worked in any other Tamil film after that.

Sai Pallavi stole hearts with her energetic performance as Araathu Anandhi, a talkative, disobedient and fun auto driver, which was drastically different from her character Malar teacher in her Malayalam debut. This came as a surprise to the audience, but nevertheless her performance here was a hit, too. Dhanush and Sai Pallavi played the lead pair for the first time.

The song Rowdy Baby had everything going for the team. Composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and sung by Dhanush and Dhee, the song became a sensation in no time. With dancing sensation Prabhudeva choreographing the number and Dhanush and Sai Pallavi setting the screen on fire with their super duper moves, it was a sure-shot hit right from the beginning.

While Maari 2 marked Yuvan Shankar Raja's first collaboration with Balaji Mohan, it also marked the reunion of Dhanush and Yuvan after a long hiatus of ten years. The last time they had teamed up was for Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008), the songs of which were massive chartbusters, too. The tracks were written by Dhanush and Yuvan and Dhanush ended up singing two of the songs.
