A total 206,926 new and used vehicles arrived at New Zealand ports in 2024, down 17.4% compared to 250,690 units the year prior.
The number of new and used vehicles arriving in December 2024 saw a month-on-month decrease of 45 units with a total 15,863 units landing.
It compares to a total of 15,818 new and used vehicles hitting the wharves in November, according to New Zealand Customs motor vehicle data.
December figures included 13,599 passenger cars with 6949 new and 6650 used. This represented a month-on-month decrease of 4.2% for new passenger cars (down from 6779 in November) and a decrease of 5.8% for used passenger cars (down from 7062 in November).
Total arrivals of new and used trucks and vans totalled 2083 units in December, up from 1877 units in November. This included 1599 new trucks and vans under 3500kg GVM and 242 over 3500kg GVM.
A total of 242 units of used trucks and vans hit the wharves in December compared to 254 in November.
December also saw the arrival of 181 new and used buses and coaches compared to 100 in the month prior.
