Frequently Asked Questions

Rosie’s Girls offers BUILD, WELD, and EXPLORE themes. RG BUILD exposes campers to beginner woodworking skills. They learn to use hand tools and power tools, including jigsaws, miter saws, orbital sanders and more. RG WELD teaches campers to weld metal into picture frames, lanterns, sculptures, and other designs. Campers learn to use MIG welders, plasma cutters, and hand tools. RG EXPLORE is a “low-tech” version of camp that focuses primarily on hand tool use; campers work with wood, metal and other materials to build all sorts of STEAM-based projects.

Since 2000, Rosie’s Girls has been empowering middle school girls to build STEAM and trades skills in safe, fun and welcoming environments. Youth work with their hands to build their very own creations using tools like saws, drills and MIG welders. They also build their social-emotional skillset through our signature Power Skills curriculum, building relationships with other campers and discussing topics relevant to their middle school years. Like all VWW youth programs, Rosie’s Girls exists to give girls opportunities to strengthen their self-confidence, build connections with others, and expand their sense of possibility.

No, Rosie’s Girls is a day camp. Most sessions are full day. Snacks are provided, lunch is not. If your camper needs assistance with lunch, please let us know and we can help!

Technical versions of Rosie’s Girls (BUILD, WELD, etc.) typically enroll 12 youth. There are 3 adult instructors and at least one Counselor in Training (CIT) per session. This makes for roughly a 4:1 ratio. Adult Instructors are trained in both the technical and social-emotional components of camp. Each camper is supervised while using power tools.

Yes. VWW is committed to ensuring every participant who is interested in attending camp is able regardless of ability to pay. Scholarships are provided during the registration process. To learn more, email [email protected]

There are a few important items that all campers must have to be successful. VWW can assist in supplying any one of them – please let us know what you need in advance of camp. Water bottle; daily lunch; closed-toe shoes (preferably work or hiking boots); hair tie, bandana or headband; a willingness to try new things. Campers enrolled in RG WELD must bring long pants (ex. jeans – not leggings or sweatpants) in order to participate.

Bring Rosie's Girls to your community!

Since 2000, VWW has run Rosie’s Girls camps and afterschool programs in communities across the state, and licensed sites throughout the country.

VWW uses a partnership model to bring the experience and impact of Rosie’s Girls to even more Vermont youth.

In addition to organizing and staffing camps and afterschool programs ourselves each year, we also train schools, career and technical education centers, and other organizations to host and run their own Rosie’s Girls program.

Partners receive facilitator training and technical support, the complete Rosie’s Girls curriculum, and assistance with outreach and registration. Rosie’s Girls EXPLORE partners receive most project materials.
