Talk:Pyromancer's Mask

This is a community created hat?

Is anyone positive of that one? I could be wrong, but I thought this was a Valve hat. Colonelcool 07:31, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

The name

Is it *supposed* to be misspelled, or was it just a huge typo on Valve's part? —烏Γ (kaw at me), 16:31, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

I think it's a mistake. I actually moved this page to "Pyromancer's Mask" but someone moved it back. I hadn't realized that it was actually typo'd in the game. Interestingly enough, the typo is only in the localization strings, but the item's schema name is in fact spelled "Pyromancer", not "Pryomancer". Leave it like this for now to reflect the in-game spelling and if/when it is fixed the page can be moved. -- Alex2539 - (talk | contribs) -- 16:33, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Pretty sure it's intentional in keeping with gamer humor. -Object404 12:35, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
items_game.txt lists it as pyromancer all over. The name, the item_name, the backpack image, and the model file name are all pyromancer. Pryomancer is nowhere to be found there. Much of this update does seem rushed, and something as simple as a typo making it to release is bound to happen sooner or later Unapologetically Bad 05:21, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I actually e-mailed Robin Walker about this very thing. Waiting to see if he or anyone from Valve reply. Will let you guys know, but I think it's a typo. :) NihonTiger 05:24, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Is it really a dragon skull?....

It looks more like it's supposed to be from a four-legged mammal of some kind. I can't think of which exactly at the moment. It definitely does not look like a dragon skull though. Ninjaa003 18:17, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

It has sharp teeth when you see the model in-game, so yes it's a dragon. -Object404 04:45, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, it has sharp teeth and the snout shape looks reptilian. With that, and the way it juts out in the back like spikes, it definitely was meant to look like a dragon. This also makes the most sense thematically. --Mar 05:28, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
Also, skulls of ungulates and bovines have a single combined gaping hole where the nostrils are. It's not a hoofed mammal skull. -Object404 12:33, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
In itself, this argument is fun trivia. "And to point out, this skull is not shaped like any bovine or mammal known, it is most indubitably a dragon, good sire!" Jack O'Mally 23:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
Sigh... Why is this even a discussion. Google "Dragon Skull" and/or "Pyromancer". It's a Dragon skull people, move on... -- Benjamuffin Om nom nom! (talk | contribs) 23:38, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I just saw those teeth, and you are correct, those animals have a nasal cavity, thats missing here. User doomgiver tf2wiki sig pic.png 10:59, 8 December 2011 (PST)

Ajkaramba

I agree that it doesn't really look like a dragon, but I like the hat anyway. JS 22:02, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Seriously...

It is fairly obviously a dragon skull (albeit warped to fit the pyro's fat head). Have you never seen a real-life dragon skull before? I have, and this is a perfect replica. And 'Pryomancer' is an intentional spelling mistake? really? -Ritz 12:54, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Intentionally misspelled then. -Object404 17:41, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

i thought dragons were mythical creatures?Devilspecter 12:59, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Some dragons exist.[1] --Mar 22:47, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Pyromancer's Mask seems to be based on the mythical sort of dragon though... Blk_Mage_Ctype 11:52, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

'Pryo' vs. 'Pyro'

To settle the argument I figured I'd do some digging and find out what the item is really meant to be named. The following excerpt is from the item's entry in items_game.txt.

		"316"
		{
			"name"	"Pyromancer's Mask"
			"item_class"	"tf_wearable_item"
			"capabilities"
			{
				"nameable"		"1"
				"can_gift_wrap" 	"1"
			}
			"show_in_armory"	"1"
			"item_type_name" "#TF_Wearable_Hat"
			"item_name"	"#TF_PyromancersMask"
			"item_slot"	"head"
			"item_quality"	"unique"
			"image_inventory"	"backpack/player/items/pyro/pyro_pyromancers_mask"
			"image_inventory_size_w"		"128"
			"image_inventory_size_h"		"82"
			"model_player"	"models/player/items/pyro/pyro_pyromancers_mask.mdl"
			"drop_type"	"none"
			"used_by_classes"
			{
				"pyro"	"1"
			}
			"mouse_pressed_sound" 	"ui/item_hat_pickup.wav"
			"drop_sound" 		"ui/item_hat_drop.wav"
		}

Seems well and good, all references of the name show it as "Pyromancer". The error comes from tf_english.txt, where it is referred to as "Pryomancer":

"TF_PyromancersMask"		"Pryomancer's Mask"

As everything points to "Pyromancer", there is absolutely no doubt it was intended to be called that. Valve just made the error in the worst place to make one, really. The article should stay as "Pryo" until it gets fixed though in my opinion. seb26 [talk] 05:52, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely agreed. :) I'm sure they'll patch it within the next few days, too, so this will all be in the past. NihonTiger 05:55, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Prancer?

I just realized a few days ago, because this was for Christmas, is there a way this could be a reference to the reindeer? PRANCER/PYROMANCER, it even resembles a reindeer skull. Thoughts? Zachariah Zuan (talk) 05:43, 16 October 2013 (PDT)
