Hi, I am a sysop of viwiki
and a global renamer. I have joined Wikidata since 2013 with 7k7 edits. I have found recently that there were many Vietnamese members who come to Wikidata and vandalized the items related to Vietnamese politicians. Therefore, I would like to ask for this right to help to patrol the content and deal with these members. Besides, I am also a Wikidata researcher. Thank you!

[edit]- Oppose as Martin Urbanec already said, you seem have have done little undos and WD:RFD. As far as I can see you also haven't engaged much in community discussions. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 00:41, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Support I agree that a greater involvement here would be appreciated but it is also true that there is a lack of Vietnamese speaking administrators (currently none if I believe this page). Pamputt (talk) 07:30, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @Pamputt: Having an administrator who's not in touch with the way admin decisions are made in Wikidata interact with Vietnamese users in a way that's not easily understood by other administrators is not good. It's much better if the cases are brought to the admin noticeboard. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 15:47, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose for now; will reconsider after some sustained activity of the sort Christian describes. Mahir256 (talk) 19:53, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose. Nominee has little community involvement on Wikidata. Also, 7k edits don't seem to be much in over 7 years on Wikidata. Sun8908 💬 03:43, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Support Having no administrators in a language would seem to be a rather significant problem. 7k is plenty considering their edits appear to all be done manual. In any case, their long history proves good intentions and shows familiarity with Wikidata. Considering the undo link isn't exactly the domain of rocket science, I don't quite see how a lack of using it would disqualify someone like this. But if that turns out to be a deal breaker now, I want to encourage them to start engaging vandalism with the tools available to all users now and to try again in the not-too-distant future. --Matthias Winkelmann (talk) 06:17, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose Wikidata vandalism is subtly different from vandalism on other wikis, and thus local anti-vandalism experience is required to be an admin here.--Jasper Deng (talk) 07:54, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Weak oppose I think you have good potential and would fill in a good niche, but as described above, you need a little more time and experience. Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please

- Oppose As I already said in comments, there's basically zero involvement in admin areas the candidate says they want to participate in (ie. counter vandalism). Language skills are a plus, but they don't outweigh inexperience in counter vandalism. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:59, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Hmm... Besides one undo from January 2021, and second undo from November 2020, all your undos are from January 2018 or older (that's about three years old). You also don't have any requests in WD:RFD, and I fail to find any other admin-related activity. Do you really need administrator rights here? Wouldn't WD:Rollback flag be enough for you? --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:19, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, I am not be here so often but I saw that the current sysops can not deal with the vandalism from viwiki. Some of you even do not know Vietnamese and how to counter them. I am not sure the rollback right but it seems not enough to solve the problem. Ok if not possible, I will try to join here more often. Alphama (talk) 06:26, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I consider again and I do not need this right now. It seems I need to have more edits and community involvement. Hope you guys can deal with the vandalism. Thank you! Alphama (talk) 06:29, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @Alphama: As noted above, the WD:Rollback flag is extremely useful for vandalism-fighting; for serious cases admin's can be called upon via the noticeboard. I encourage you to apply for rollback first (assuming you haven't already done that). Also please feel welcome to join Wikidata:WikiProject Counter-Vandalism and note the resources listed there which can help with that effort. ArthurPSmith (talk) 15:50, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I can use some user scripts to do that so WD:Rollback flag is not so important anymore. Alphama (talk) 18:52, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Someone here can help to ban this user (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/M%E1%BA%A1c_Th%C3%A1i_T%E1%BB%95). He vandalized many items related to Vietnamese people. Thanks! Alphama (talk) 02:56, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
