New civil registration unit called "distrikt" in effect in Sweden since 1 January 2016
[edit]I guess this article needs to be updated, as the term "district" used here will be confused with the new unit called "distrikt" (in Swedish) used for civil registration in Sweden since 2016. There are 2,523 districts corresponding to the parishes of the Church of Sweden on 31 December 1999, the last day it was still a state church. There is no article in English for these new districts yet. The term "district" used in this article should probably be replaced by another term to avoid confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mad Greg (talk • contribs) 18:03, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
Re: 14 December 2008 edit, various naming issues
[edit]- Regardless of what the Swedish Local Government Act calls the Stockholm "kommunfullmäktige" in English, the government of Stockholm refers to this body ONLY as the "city council" in all of their English literature. Furthermore, there are practically no references on the internet whatsoever to a "Stockholm Municipal Assembly". (google search hit comparisons aren't encouraged, but the fact that there are 5 hits for "Stockholm Municipal Assembly" and thousands for "Stockholm City Council" is telling.) Referring to the Stockholm kommunfullmäktige as a municipal assembly is silly, not to mention confusing for anyone reading the sources from the Stockholm municipal website.
- "But they are no boroughs, since they are no legal persons." This sentence makes no sense. The districts (or boroughs, as they are called here) clearly exist. after all, this is an article about boroughs. If this is supposed to refer to the lack of of a basis for sub-municipal districts in Swedish law, that was already stated in the first paragraphs.
- Saying the municipality of huddinge municipality is repetitive, but thank you for fixing the links. I always forget to link to the municipal articles as opposed to the locality ones.
- There has always been a misuse of the term "borough" when it comes to Swedish sub-municipal districts. A borough in the sense used in English speaking countries (e.g. the London boroughs) is an entity or legal person of its all, a kind of "sub-municipality". The sub-districts of some Swedish municipalities are merely boards (nämnder) with geographical rather than branch responsibilties. They are not elected by the populations of the respective districts, but appointed by the municipality as a whole. Really nothing worth writing own articles about. --Muniswede (talk) 22:13, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
- Continuing where you left off a year ago, shouldn't we replace all references to boroughs in articles about Swedish city districts such as Bromma borough? It should say Bromma district. Skrofler (talk) 08:25, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
- Yes that would be very good. This terminology is a bit difficult. The best solution, in my opinion, is to use words like "district", "municipal district" or "city district" for "kommundel", stadsdelsområde", "stadsdelsnämndsområde" &c. This kind of administrative districts are no local government entities or legal persons of its own, but just nämnder (boards) responsible for several tasks within a certain geographical area instead of a specific task regarding the whole municipality. There is no term fixed for them. Different municipalities use different terms. The term "stadsdel" should instead be called quarter (country subdivision). If nobody opposes I can start replace the refereces to "borougs" as soon as possible. --Muniswede (talk) 22:30, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
