Move? 2007
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
Per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) this article should be at Kraków Old Town, like bunches of other old towns. I hope there is no need to go thru Wikipedia:Requested moves. Renata 04:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

- I see your point, however, "Stare Miasto" is the name of the Administrative District No. I of Kraków. The remaining seventeen districts of Kraków have not been anglicized. Take as an example Nowa Huta, District No. XVIII of Kraków. The corresponding article is not slated to be renamed to New Steel-mill. I suggest you look at the main article and perhaps wait for more feedback from our community. --Poeticbent talk 15:15, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- For UNESCO, its Cracow's Historic Centre (new article there now). For the political district, keep this here, under whatever name. -- Matthead DisOuß 15:39, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Bad idea. Unilateral split which makes no sense, since it is all about one and the same place. We don't need two separate stubs, both created as inflammatory by a single user. No discussion. Unacceptable. --Poeticbent talk 16:03, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Violating WP:AGF and WP:NPA once again, Poeticbent? And WP:OWN? Tell your grievances to the editors who keep Warsaw Old Town and inofficial Category:Neighbourhoods of Warsaw separate from political Category:Boroughs of Warsaw. An Administrative District is not a world heritage site, neither in Cracow nor in Warsaw. Thus, two articles linking to the each other.-- Matthead DisOuß 18:25, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Poeticbent; Matthead, stop disrupting the project with undiscussed controversial edits like that. This is explicitly discouraged by Wikipedia:Content forking.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 18:57, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Kraków - Stare Miasto → Kraków Old Town — This name would make more sense (per Warsaw Old Town). The article seems not to be about the administrative district Stare Miasto, but about the Old Town neighbourhood of the city. (As is further evidenced by the Polish WP article to which it is linked.)--Kotniski (talk) 11:15, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
- Comment shouldn't that be Cracow Old Town ? 76.66.192.35 (talk) 08:06, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Could be, but Kraków is the form Wikipedia generally uses for the name of the city (and rightly, I think, since that form has more contemporary English usage).--Kotniski (talk) 09:58, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Please compare the maps of Kraków District I Stare Miasto with the perimeter of the Old Town provided by the city. It looks like the actual District I is bigger than the historic Old Town (if not identical). I'm afraid, what you had in mind when requesting this move was not the Dzielnica Stare Miasto, but the Dzielnica Śródmieście (File:Kraków Śródmieście 1990.svg) which includes Grzegorzki (to the right).
To summarize, I don't think the move is warranted, but I'm not 100% sure. --Poeticbent talk 18:36, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I looked at the Polish article pl:Stare Miasto w Krakowie, which appears to be the equivalent one to this. In the navbox at the bottom, it lists that "Stare Miasto" as one of the component parts of "Dzielnica I Stare Miasto" (Kazimierz · Kleparz · Nowe Miasto · Nowy Świat · Okół · Piasek · Stare Miasto · Stradom · Warszawskie · Wawel). In other words, I don't think this article is about the whole of that dzielnica, but only that part of it which is called "Stare Miasto" (in the narrow sense) in Polish, and which in English would naturally be translated as Kraków Old Town in the style of Warsaw Old Town.--Kotniski (talk) 19:04, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

UNESCO World Heritage Site Name
[edit]If you follow the link which indicates "name as inscribed on World Heritage List", the name is "Cracow's Historic Centre". I notice there's quite a controversy over the name of this page, but the name of the World Heritage Site is quite clear. See here for the direct link: http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/29
