Control copyright icon Hello Throwawayjamal047! Your additions to Sport in Pakistan have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:49, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detectedthat when you recently edited Pakistan national football team results (unofficial matches), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bury. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Thanks for your contributions to Eleven Star FC. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. JTtheOG (talk) 02:38, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A picture you uploaded

[edit]

Hi, a picture you uploaded - File:Pakistan national football team group picture.jpg was of the Pakistan national team which participated in the 1960 AFC Asian Cup qualification and was taken on December 1959. I got the source from a bengali book and recognise two Bengali players in the team, one of which only appeared once for Pakistan and it was during the same tournament. If you need anymore info lmk. FNH004 (talk) 18:05, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi bro, thank you very much for that, I will just edit that part, could you lmk if it was taken in Kochi/India so I can change the public domain country. My idea was to point all the players like I have done in some of the pictures here in the descriptions. So far I can only point out Umer, Changezi, and Yousuf Sr. Not sure if in the top right standing is Musa Ghazi and third standing from right to left is Abdul Ghafoor. If we have the names of the majority of players we can skip some of them stating "unknown" and see if I can find them later. Honestly I was just about to reach you, as I am trying to compile the maximum amount of pictures of the Pakistan national team in public domain to upload here and expand historic articles and sadly as expected many of them lack the exact context, and you are by far the most knowledgeable user I've seen here. Pretty sure I don't have that much grasp on Pakistan football history compared to you aswell, I am doing what I can lol. I appreciate your efforts. Btw, have a look at this account on Facebook. There are plenty of pictures in public domain regarding Pakistani/East Pakistani early football history that can be of your interest. Could you help me in the following.
  • I found this picture with the caption in Urdu saying that it is the national team with "Hussain Killer", Muhammad Umer, Musa Ghazi, Sadiq Masood, Ibrahim, Abdul Ghafoor, Qabeer, Qayyum Changezi and Abdullah Rahi, but judging by the kit it seems that it is a team from East Pakistan/Bangladesh (Mohammedan precisely) and many of these if not all of them played there.
  • I found this picture from an account from Bangladesh pointing his dad who played for Pakistan in the "1956 Asian Games in Tokyo" which I guessed he meant 1958. Unfortunately I can't find the original picture without the watermark, if you can find it would be great contribution here.
Again, thank you very much and hope you have a good day. Good luck for the next matches against Australia and Lebanon. Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 19:13, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks bro and if you want more information about Pakistani football prior to the 70s or 80s you can check - British Newspaper Archives pretty helpful ngl. Also check Pakistan national football team results (1950–1989), I have added a few Pakistani scorers from different games, thanks to a few articles I found from this site.FNH004 (talk) 17:29, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant! You don't know how big favour you have done to me. As you can see, the player statistics are very inaccurate as we miss caps and goals of players before 1999. I am amazed regarding the fact that after your contributions so far we can conclude that Umer has 8 goals recorded, bearing in mind that many many goals are still missing. Now I am definitely sure that our top goalscorer is someone else than Essa who has only 11 goals. Could you please replace the sources which states the info about the goalscorers aswell in the source section of the results, so it can make easier to track and verify. Thank you very much :) Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 18:05, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yup ill replace the sources, but the problem with the british archives is that after reading 3 articles u have to subscribe to a monthly package so idk if it will help. FNH004 (talk) 19:35, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have finally identified the majority of players in the national team group pics and updated the respective descriptions. Could you plz hv a look and let know if there is any mistake or if you can identify the rest.

Footballpakistan.com

[edit]

Hello - It seems like you're referencing footballpakistan.com in your articles, including biographies, but this website may not be considered a WP:RS. I recommend refraining from citing it.Saqib (talk I contribs) 18:55, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Understood. While researching football in Pakistan, I've found footballpakistan.com to be the most reliable and comprehensive source available. Unfortunately, information on the sport in the country, especially pre-2010s, is very scarce. The website has been instrumental in expanding and enhancing articles. Additionally, many of its news articles are sourced from reputable sources like Dawn, The News etc. such as here. Biographical information is particularly hard, if not nearly impossible to come by online, with articles on Muhammad Umer and Sharafat Ali being recently created or expanded, mainly with content from the website, and after some research we have just recently found that they are amongst the top scorers of the national team. I appreciate your assistance with my articles and would still value your input. Cheers! Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 19:29, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If footballpakistan.com has indeed provided links to original sources, why aren't you citing those original references instead? Do you have any affiliation or connection with footballpakistan.com?Saqib (talk I contribs) 19:33, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, its just more easy to access information about a single or particular topic when searching throughout the categories showed at the end of the article, such as here for Muhammad Essa instead of wandering throughout different websites, specially for poorly covered articles. Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 19:37, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm removing them for now but I strongly advise against using footballpakistan.com again. Your continued use of this dubious source could be seen as spamming!Saqib (talk I contribs) 19:40, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I mean wouldn't it be better to discuss the source at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. Tbf it's really helpful and there has never been any concensus regarding the said website afaik. Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 20:00, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Feel free to discuss its reliability there if you believe it should be allowed. However, I don't consider it reliable.Saqib (talk I contribs) 20:02, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Use AfC

[edit]

You seem to be citing social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook in biographies. I recommend not creating pages directly in the main namespace; instead, it's better to create drafts using WP:AFC and submit them for review.Saqib (talk I contribs) 20:01, 28 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bludgeoning

[edit]

Hi Throwawayjamal047, if you haven't already please read WP:Bludgeoning. There is generally no need to respond to every comment and when discussions become a back-and-forth between two (or perhaps more) editors, it makes it unattractive for uninvolved editors to join. As much as possible, after making your statement, step back unless someone specifically asks you a question. I have posted a similar note on Saqib's talk page. Also try to be concise. If there are behavioural issues with an editor, take it ANI and leave it out of the discussion. If there are other sources in dispute, as I stated at RSN, please start a separate discussion. If you do, I also suggest posting a neutral note at WT:WikiProject Football asking editors there to join the discussion. S0091 (talk) 19:28, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

FYI - I just now saw your comments on Saqib's talk page. I am not going to get into the middle of it. S0091 (talk) 19:33, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
understood, but how do you expect me to react after him ignoring even at the start of the discussion and mass removing content, constantly throwing accusations at me and then gaslighting "they tried to WP:PA me" on his talk page. I guess I might step back from contributing on complex articles as this is too much headache. I'm not wasting my time on this. Let him be Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 19:51, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Finding sources

[edit]

Are you familiar with Internet Archive and the WP:Wikipedia Library? S0091 (talk) 15:29, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I am. Why's that Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 15:37, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was asking because you mentioned in the RSN discussion the difficulty in finding sources so I just wanted to make you knew about those resources. I noticed ProQuest does have back issues of Pakistan Press International and The Nation that might be helpful and Internet Archive has various books and other sources. S0091 (talk) 15:49, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have had a look at The Nation and all sort of archives in the latter, but I will keep the other sources you mentioned in mind. Thanks for the suggestion anyways :) Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 16:12, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Btw could you please communicate a user you may know that he can stop vandalising pages. According to what I am seeing RSSSF (have a look at the intro of the page in case you don't know what it is) is "unacceptable source". I am trying to just move on and sort all that mess he created out as I won't waste my time but this is just comical. Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 18:02, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Removing sources one believes are unreliable (right or wrong) is not vandalism (read WP:VAND) and calling it such can be construed as a personal attack so please refrain from calling it that. It will only lead to trouble for you. It may be disruptive though especially if the source is appropriate for its use (WP:CONTEXTMATTERS). As I stated above, I am not going to get into the middle of the dispute. You have a few options. You can start a discussion on the article's talk page, start an RSN discussion or take it to ANI. If you choose start a discussion, either on the talk page or RSN, I suggest placing a neutral notice at WT:WikiProject Football to get other uninvolved editor's opinions who have some expertise. If you take it to ANI, be sure to have diffs and be concise. Or of course, you can ignore it. I appreciate you call it 'comical', not only because it indicates you can lower the heat of the situation but also because that word has a has special significance to me. S0091 (talk) 18:37, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well my bad then, but I think you can understand the amount of content I am replacing and the bulk of sources which have been deleted which certainly takes time and of course sorting out the mistakes as there are many of them after the disruptive editing. Glad you liked the wording nevertheless Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 18:49, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I actually do not not know. I was pinged to RSN, after reviewing the source I offered my opinion. I also noticed unhealthy and unhelpful discussion/comments so wanted squash it, thus my additional comments at RSN, my message here and at the other editor's talk page with whom I have had previous interactions. I have not looked into anything beyond that in this particular dispute. I will say based on our interactions, you seem like a very reasonable editor. S0091 (talk) 19:10, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear that. Thank you very much! :) Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 19:33, 30 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Listen, if you keep labeling me as disruptive, I'll have to take it up with an admin because it's not civil. @S0091: Fwiw, this "very reasonable editor" was previously blocked for sockpuppeting, but I'm not dwelling on that. All I'm asking them to refrain from making WP:PA. Also, I've removed all the links to that spammy website, so I hope you won't add them back in the future. Happy editing, and I'll see you around.Saqib (talk I contribs) 11:44, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well my dear friend, yes you have been disruptive (have a look at this or this) but if you have a look at my edit history I just moved on and started replacing the bulk of sources for the WHOLE DAY which of course have taken all my time and efforts. And secondly, if I have to give you a bit of context, I just had a look at this and hope you can understand my frustration for my usage of this adjective because honestly this is the last straw. He is one of the most notable Pakistani players currently so yes, I will add EVERY single detail I can find of him. Btw if you search his place of origin on google which I have used to expand his early life and career (which I can clearly see it on the diff, idk about you) then SURPRISE, this article is the ONLY thing that comes up. If you are still hellbent on implying that I am somehow related to that website based on this then go on you are free to email Mr “Eddie McAteer” who seem to have written that article and ask him if I have told him to “spam” that website. If I can recall this is like the third or fourth time you have accused me of being "affiliated" and if you have a look at Wikipedia:Casting aspersions persistent pattern of false or unsupported allegations can be highly damaging and such accusations will be collectively considered a personal attack. Oh if you are now implying Im the opposite of "reasonable editor" then if I can see based on your talk page, you already made that mistake before and also unsuccessfully accused other editors of which is quite alarming if you have indeed been "contributing positively" as you are stating in your page in Wikipedia since 10 years, but I'm not dwelling into that.
And lastly Mr. Saqib, it is my kind request to stop falsely accusing me as this is adding more flames to the situation and if you will still carry on with deliberate accusations and aspersions, you are free to notify an admin or I will be forced to do that. Hopefully this is the last time we are having this conversation as I am done with this and I don't want to waste more energy in this. Regards Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 12:43, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stuff happens, glad we both moved on. Appreciate you liked my efforts mate. Thank you very much :) Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 15:19, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My only concern is that editors refrain from citing unreliable sources in our articles, particularly in BLPs. Lately, I've noticed national-football-teams.com being used in many BLPS. I'd like to ask @S0091: for their opinion on the reliability of this website.Saqib (talk I contribs) 04:57, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is considered WP:RS. Most accurate for national team caps and goals, specially for South Asian countries. Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Links. Throwawayjamal047 (talk) 09:28, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib I defer to the WikiProject on this one for the stats. Of course the site's forum is not RS. S0091 (talk) 18:04, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Pakistan national football team results (unofficial matches), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bishan. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 07:54, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
