WWGB, I have read the behavioral guideline; conflict of interest, please be assured that I aim to bring balance and quality to the Geoffrey Edelsten article. JRC Follow up

Okay.

I have been working with a group of Carpenter Family researchers regarding the two William Carpenter immigrants and their immediate families. Both arrived in America the mid 1630s.

I produced a Carpenter Family CD in 2001 and have spent many years sorting the wheat from the chaff with this research group. We have found many will transcription errors, supposition and duplication. Our best writer/researcher is Gene Zubrinsky.

The most current and verifiable information regarding the William Carpenter immigrants is online at: http://members.cox.net/jrcrin001/carplink.htm

Y-DNA research on these two families have confirmed paper trails to the William Carpenter immigrants and the real Y-DNA relatedness of those two William Carpenters.

Use the Table of Contents to go to the discussion section of Groups 2 & 3. Note: Tables 1, 2 and 3 have Group 2 & 3 Y-DNA marker results. The FTDNA number on the far left of Groups 2 & 3 if clicked on lead to the lineages provided.

See Groups 2 & 3 at the following link. http://members.cox.net/johnrcarpenter/index.htm

I am a novice at Wikipedia. You have a much better understanding of the editing, format and policies. What I would like to see is a correction of the Carpenter posting you have on line.

Is that possible?

Tommy Lowne article

Hi WWGB, I notice that you removed the 'this person has recently died' template, from the 'Tommy Lowne' WIKI article, saying 'no evidence of death'. Tommy Lowne was my father and I can assure you that he died. Can you please tell me what evidence is needed, so that I can provide it? I would be grateful if you could reply either on my WIKI talk page or through my email address thus: andrea@ukauthors.com. Thank you. AndreaUKA (talk) 21:41, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

stars

people do know where the Drum Tower is. they also know where the 2008 Summer Games were held. you can't be serious; you don't even realize that you and other users (including admins) are contradicting yourselves. "stabbings" is not used anywhere in the world in a title, particularly in this sort of case. tell me please, why you care about this article at all? the Olympics are long over, move on. you have barnstars on your page, but little logic in your arguments. Upgrade1 (talk) 01:41, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia is much more than a contemporaneous journal. Sure we might know now where the Drum Tower is located, or where the 2008 Games were held. That will not be the case in the future. Where were the 1928 Summer Olympics held? The previous title contained no mention of city or nation, which was my concern. I care because Wikipedia should be as accurate as possible. It's not just about moving on, that's for Wikinews. As for your incivility, that is not worthy of comment. WWGB (talk) 02:42, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
I think we concur or agree on over 90 percent of things, however you even contradict yourself. I don't mind trying to regroup and talk with you concerning a topic. I do think you have been quite insensible. I strive for accuracy, you are missing some bigger points. Upgrade1 (talk) 03:27, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Upgrade1 is a sockpuppet and is quite frankly delusional, don't listen to what he says, the same type of messages have appeared on other users pages. .:davumaya:. 03:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I can see why you've applied Wikipedia:Notability_(music)#Criteria_for_musicians_and_ensembles as he fails on a few grounds - if however the other band he played (captain Rizz was added as a entry as I believe it should be - I didn't create an entry for them as I know very little about them, but a quick google show several vinyl LPs on Indie labels, with one still for sale on Amazon. So, if I create a stub for this band, are you happy that Jason deserves a page for himself? Many thanks --C Hawke (talk) 12:33, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi! Just a friendly note, when nominating multiple related articles for deletion, the "I am also nominating the following related pages ..." bit goes on the deletion discussion page – not the article. Happy editing, THEN WHO WAS PHONE? (talk) 11:40, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

A Sydney Meetup

G'day all - I'm dropping this note in to let you know that there's to be a Wiki Meetup the week after next, on Tuesday, 21st at 18:00 at The Paragon in Circular Quay. If you've ever thought about popping along to one of these, but haven't had the chance - now's the time! If you love the idea, but the time and / or place don't quite work for you, please do feel free to wiki edit away at the meetup page and I'm sure we can sort something out :-) Meetups are a great way to share wiki-thoughts, meet wiki-friends, and generally learn how to prefix all areas of your life with wiki- :-)

It's a very friendly bunch, and we're hoping to be able to formally collect membership fees and details for the Australian Chapter (did you know that we're the only current english speaking chapter? Join now for kudos and future bragging rights!) - as well as just generally have a good 'ol time. I look forward to seeing you there :-) best, Privatemusings (talk) 07:48, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Have you considered?

Let me tell you about a phenomenon I have noticed, both in real life, and here on the wikipedia. I find some people don't cope well with questions -- cope so poorly to questions that they regard even the most tactfully phrased, good faith questions as personal attacks.

Have you ever noticed this phenomenon in others?

Would you please review this comment of yours?

I am afraid there is no really tactful way to suggest this to you. I think it is in your interest, and in the interest of the wikipedia project, for you to think about whether you yourself might be one of those vulnerable individuals.

Good luck with that! Geo Swan (talk) 21:01, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

I notice that you tagged the page spend the night in bray for speedy deletion with the reason "article about a musical recording that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject, and where the artist's article has never existed or has been deleted". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because Dustin The Turkey does have an article. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:PROD process. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 12:20, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, as a heads up I thought I would let you know that the article Jaz McKay, which you proposed for deletion, has been deprodded by its creator, Jazmckay. I've nominated the article at Afd. Maethordaer (talk) 04:09, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

AfD

How did the article come to be nominated 3 minutes after creation? cygnis insignis 01:23, 16 November 2008 (UTC) and 06:38, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I am not aware that there is any time limit on nominating an article for deletion. Since the author asserted notability, it was not possible to nominate the article for speedy deletion. As I believed (and still do) that the subject's notability does not warrant a Wikipedia article, then it was nominated for deletion discussion. Regards, WWGB (talk) 06:46, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, I am not aware of one either, but that does not answer my question. I am aware, of course, that you want to delete it - speedy or otherwise. A new account created an article on an apparently non-notable person and three minutes later it was at AfD. I am genuinely mystified as to what the background could be, and how you can decide in three minutes that someone was nn. Are you saying that you were predisposed to that belief? cygnis insignis 07:12, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

cat:Blue Mountains, New South Wales

Hi. I noticed that you placed cat:Blue Mountains, New South Wales into a few articles. I noticed that one of the articles in question already has the cat Category:Suburbs of the City of Blue Mountains which is a sub category of Blue Mountains New South Wales. If so shouldn't the article only be categorized with Category:Suburbs of the City of Blue Mountains :--Adam (talk) 02:05, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Lee Cox

HI. I am a keen political observer and have been researching a book on QLD Politics in the modern era. I have conducted interviews with Lee Cox and have sat in lectures at Griffith Uni taken by Steven Stockwell, this page is full of crap. Mr Cox is not a professor, he is not an author or a political notable, he is a tutor at Griffith Uni and run some failed council campaigns. If your the master of editing then you should do something about this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jfranklin80 (talkcontribs) 09:28, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of victims of the November 2008 Mumbai attacks

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of victims of the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of lists WP:INDISCRIMINATE and Wikipedia is not a memorial WP:NOTMEMORIAL - there seems to be only one notable victim of the attacks thus far, Hemant Karkare

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. John R. Stallings

Could I ask why you have removed, twice, the "recent death" tag from John R. Stallings, without commenting on the talk page? The editor who re-inserted the tag gave an explanation for the reason [1]. Also, if you remove these tags in the future, could you avoid marking the edits as minor, and provide a more detailed reason for removing the tags? If the tag itself is deprecated, an MFD would be in order. — Carl (CBM · talk) 16:54, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey WWGB, I've added an image to the article on William Dowd, would you mind checking that I've done everything correctly? Ah, but William MacDonald is ambiguous. That's why William MacDonald (serial killer) needs a disambiguator. Bilal Skaf does not. See Wikipedia:Disambiguation. Andrewa (talk) 11:02, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

John R. Stallings (again)

You removed the recent death template from John R. Stallings again, without commenting on the talk page or responding to my comment on your talk page above. If you remove the tag again without commenting, I will strongly consider blocking you for edit warring. It's clear that there isn't agreement with your removal of the tag, and repeating your actions without any discussion is out of line with community norms. And, as I said above, the edit should not be marked as a minor edit, especially when it has been reverted twice already. — Carl (CBM · talk) 16:48, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

THE FREDDIE & FANNIE ROPE TRICK

I am confused by your revert of my edit to THE FREDDIE & FANNIE ROPE TRICK, now deleted. The reason for the post is simply to try to understand Wikipedia policy. I believe that you are reading the posted link wrong, but then it could be me that is reading it wrong. Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations states "Mark them as such on this list, but do not remove them until they are deleted." I do not believe that it is refering to the copyrighted material itself, but to the tag that was posted on the page and then stating that the entry created by the tag on page "Wikipedia:Suspected copyright violations" should be edited.

I believe that it is saying do not delete the report entry below. But in this case there is no entry as the bot did not tag the article but you did. See WP:VIO that states:

ATTENTION: For blatant copyright infringements:
  • If there is a clean revision in the page history, revert to it.
  • If not, and it meets the criteria, request speedy deletion with {{db-copyvio|url=http://www.WhereItCameFrom.tld/}}

and

However, if all revisions have copyright problems:
Place on the page one of the following:
{{subst:copyvio | url=insert URL here}}
{{subst:copyvio | identify non-web source here}}
This will blank all text beneath the template. (To limit blanking, place at the end of the text to be blanked.)

I believe that you used a different tag that did not blank the copy from display which was part of the reason why I deleted the copy. But secondly was to note the fact that it was also posted to a second page where it hade been reverted.

If I am the one reading it wrong, would you be so kind to explain how. The page has already been deleted. This post is simply to help me understand policy and to avoid making reverting errors myself. Thank you Dbiel (Talk) 13:32, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

The kinks are still being worked out in a new design for these Signpost deliveries, and we apologize for the plain format for this week.

Charles H. Smelser

You recently deleted the date of death tag for former Maryland politician Charles H. Smelser. What is your reason for deleting it? He died on January 29th. Charles Smelser Death NoticeWallstreethotrod (talk) 17:46, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the follow-up information! I learn something new everyday. Wallstreethotrod (talk) 13:22, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Dementia c.o.d.

Before I made that edit, I too wondered if dementia was a cause of death. Before I saved it, I read the dementia article. The disease being a possible cause of death is stated in the article. We all learn something new every day. :) Ed (talk) 13:31, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Please explain

You undid my re-addition of February without responding to my comments at Talk:Deaths in 2009. Could you comment on that page?

Paul Harvey died in February. His death is current news. But the calendar had already switched over to March when he died, since it was March in Greenwich time. Someone in the USA clicking on "Recent deaths" on the main page on the evening of February 28th would see only the blank March 1st item and would not find out that Paul Harvey had died.

Deleting a month from that page the instant the month is over will cause this problem. Deleting it a week later will not. Michael Hardy (talk) 16:26, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

You are missing the point of my edit. Editors were recording February deaths at Deaths in February 2009 or Deaths in 2009 on a whim, which meant neither list was accurate. I simply closed one list to stop the duplication. If you wanted to keep February deaths open at Deaths in 2009 for a longer period, then you should also have closed Deaths in February 2009 (after transferring any unique February edits made there). I have no problem with the rollover being delayed for a while, as long as there is only one page available for editing. Regards, WWGB (talk) 22:36, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Flag icons in the International Reaction to the 2009 Victorian bushfires]] article

Please see Talk:International_reaction_to_the_2009_Victorian_bushfires. Merbabu still insists that we should not use flag icons on this page. Others consider otherwise. Please observe the discussion and provide your views, which now has gone to a RFC. (and happy birthday!) Kransky (talk) 13:55, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Jeff Griffin's threats

Let me know if he turns up again. He's been blocked under 3 usernames so far. dougweller (talk) 10:25, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

The guy is going out of control... Want me to semi-protect your userpage? —Dark talk 07:15, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
I've semi-protected your page for a week and blocked 2 of his IP addresses. The fact that he thinks you are an Administrator makes me wonder about his skills. dougweller (talk) 22:30, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

I see footballer Greg Bird has more charges against him, for assaulting yet another woman. I went to his page, and see that according to Wikipedia, he has a clean record. Looking down the history list, I noticed that you had previously added this information to the article in the past. However, clever little gremlins and fanbois seem to come in during the night and delete all those negative things. I guess that's part of Wikipedia  :) --Lester 03:25, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
