Wisden17 (talk • contribs) I have been active on Wikipedia for about 8 months, although only since January have I had a registered account. I feel that I would be able to add a lot to the Mediation Committee, including experience of real life mediation, and have already completed my first mediation case (on Wikipedia) which can be seen here Wisden17 00:26, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mediation committee:
Neutralfor now. As above with Computerjoe, I haven't had much interaction with you, and you're not an administrator. How have you gained the respect of the community? Ral315 (talk) 04:08, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]- As I've told Wisden17, I will look at the results of his medcab case if it finishes in the near future, but unless I see anything glaring, I'm leaning support. - Support. I'm a bit wary of CJ members, but I'd be willing to trust Wisden now. -- Drini 04:05, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Support. Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Romanization of the Russian language was well handled. -Will Beback 21:52, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comments:
- I know there aren't open requests right now, but you may want to take one at Mediation cabal and then you would be shooting two birds at cone. Showing us how would you handle mediation and helping them with the huge backlog they have currently. -- ( drini's page ☎ ) 02:27, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- One step ahead of you Drini, I 'took' the Scientology case on the MedCabal the other day, but am just waiting for all parties to respond to whether a) there are happy for me to mediate, and b) what medium of communication they want to use for the mediation. But I certainly take your point about getting as much experience on Wikipedia as possible, and I'm just waiting for the next Request for Mediation to become ready to be assigned a Mediator as I'd like to get more of a chance to show my abilities as a mediator (and ease the 'nerves' of those who may be worried about the fact I'm not an admin etc.). --Wisden17 18:35, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- It appears now that the Scientology case has effectively ended, the one editor removing the sentence that caused the 'consternation' in the first place, without any involvment by me! So, I'll take on another case, and post the name of the case here, so you can all keep an eye on my progress and 'style'. As I said to Ral315, I'm very happy to discuss with any user, although this would be of most use to current Committee Members, what I feel the nature of mediation should be on Wikipedia (when of course you do not have face-to-face interaction) and how I have skills and experience in real life mediation, and am, as you can see, trying to get as much skill and experience in Wikipedia's mediation, and the inherent 'challenges' it presents. I'm happy to do this via talk pages, or this page, but I feel it is much easier to have a real-time conversation with someone, so I'm happy to discuss things either via IRC, MSN Messenger, Skype, Google Talk, AIM, or any other programme. --Wisden17 15:10, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- You may want to take one of the WP:MEDCAB mediations if the medical analysis of circumcision is too complex. -- Drini 04:04, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment: You wrote last month, "I think that Wikipedia should develop from being under the ultimate control of Jimbo. I really think that he should relinquish his rights to censor decisions of the community." Would you mind expanding on this? Jimbo has never censored any decisions of the community, nor has he exercised "ultimate control" of the encyclopedia. You also state that "I'd like to get onto the Mediation Committee (and ultimately ArbCom)". Would you also mind expanding on this as well? Mediation and Arbitration are two contrasting and different tasks, and I'd like to hear your opinion on the two processes. (I realize that many mediators have later served on the ArbCom, but I'm just interested in your view.) In addition, I also noticed that you felt concerned people would oppose you on the basis of a lack of time and/or edits: why do you feel that you are qualified to be a mediator despite that? Finally, you quote "real life mediation" above. Would you mind expanding on this? Thanks a lot! (Sorry, it must feel like I'm grilling you here. :-) ) Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:21, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the prompt response! I'll need some more time to look this over and will respond here shortly. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:11, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
