Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! —Svārtava (t/u) • 17:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I won't be here long time. Zumbacool (talk) 17:45, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I don’t understand why Svartava does welcome WF all the time… ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 23:00, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Inqilābī I misunderstood him, it was just like after ten edits. Since he had replied pretty soon, I couldn't revert it. —Svārtava (talk) • 01:55, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
His edits smack of Wonderfoolery, so you should be able to sense him, not too difficult. No worries anyways. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 02:03, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Advice

Hey WF, I was wondering if you could give me any advice about any edits I have done. You have got such a long and broad experience that I think you might be able to give me some good pointers to make my edits stronger. Thanks for any response, including rude responses. More pronunciations and quotes, please. Zumbacool (talk) 23:19, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

CAT:BF

Please add audios only after you upload them, otherwise those pages needlessly fill up CAT:Pages with broken file links and they do not empty themselves after the audio has been uploaded. —Svārtava (t/u) • 03:22, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cool, thanks for showing me that cleanup category. I caused one error at Ghanaian, so I'll continue doing things exactly as I did before. Zumbacool (talk) 18:19, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I had to painstakingly null-edit all of them using JWB, was not cool at all. —Svārtava (t/u) • 18:29, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
You didn't have to null-edit anything, dude. Nor should you care about that category being temporarily overpopulated. Zumbacool (talk) 18:34, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
