From a Turkic language. Compare Turkish arık (irrigation ditch),(tr) Uyghur ئېرىق (ëriq), and Kyrgyz арык (arık).(ky) As a wanderword, its cognates occur in other languages, such as Persian [script needed] (arīq), Adyghe арыкъ (arəq), and Russian арык (aryk).(ru).
