[edit]Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀκανθόχοιρος (akanthókhoiros, “porcupine”), from ἄκανθος (ákanthos, “acanthus, a prickly plant”) + χοῖρος (khoîros, “pig”). Doublet of σκαντζόχοιρος (skantzóchoiros).
