סוֹכֵן • (sokhén) m (plural indefinite סוֹכְנִים, singular construct סוֹכֵן־, plural construct סוֹכְנֵי־, feminine counterpart סוֹכֶנֶת)

1. (Modern Israeli Hebrew) An agent: one who acts on behalf of an organization.

   סוכני הכאוס ― sokh'néi-haká'os ― the agents of chaos

2. (Biblical Hebrew) An official serving in a house or palace.

     וְהַנַּעֲרָה יָפָה עַד מְאֹד וַתְּהִי לַמֶּלֶךְ סֹכֶנֶת וַתְּשָׁרְתֵהוּ וְהַמֶּלֶךְ לֹא יְדָעָהּ׃

     v'hana'ará yafá ad-m'ód vat'hí lamélekh sokhénet vat'shar'téihu v'hamélekh ló y'da'áh.

     And the damsel was very fair, and cherished [literally was sokhénet to] the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.
