From Middle Persian [script needed] (dwšmn'), [script needed] (dwšmyn'), 𐫅𐫇𐫢𐫖𐫏𐫗 (dwšmyn /⁠dušmēn⁠/, enemy), from Proto-Iranian *dušmánah. Compare Ancient Greek δῠσμενής (dusmenḗs), Sanskrit दुर्मनस् (durmanas).
